Dark Phoenix is the mentally unstable physical incarnation of the Phoenix Force taking the form of Jean Grey. Driven mad by Jason Wyngarde, she wields immense powers, used for destruction. Edit
Characteristics
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 110 lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: Red
Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix
Dark Phoenix is sometimes considered an Omega-Level mutant but in all actuality she is an entity that used an Omega-Level template (Jean Grey) as its genetic template. She can move things with her mind, and read minds at will with a multitude of other amazing powers provided with her cosmic energy, yet when her darkness resides, Jean Grey retakes control.
Origin
Dark Phoenix is, simply put, the dark side of the Phoenix. She was corrupted by the efforts of the Hellfire Club and prior to that she was simply the Phoenix Force, an entity that impersonated Jean Grey.
Dark Phoenix had become immensely powerful and uncontrollable and though the X-Men tried to stop her, it was the work of Mastermind, aided by an electronic device created by Emma Frost, who was using her to join the Hellfire Club.
Phoenix/Dark Phoenix joined the Hellfire Club as the Black Queen and though the X-Men came to her rescue, it was actually that factor that changed Phoenix into the Dark Phoenix.
Mastermind defeated Cyclops in a psychic duel, and thinking Jean Grey's true love was dead, Phoenix was broken and vanished into the heavens. It was in a distant galaxy where she satisfied herself by devouring the Sun of the D'Bari system, killing billions of innocent beings.
She was attacked by a Shi'ar vessel but she made short work of it, but not before they alerted their Empress, Lilandra. She gathered other galactic empires including the Kree and Skrulls and so it was judged that for the universe to live, Dark Phoenix/Jean Grey had to die.
But when Dark Phoenix/Jean Grey returned her power was temporarily neutralized, Professor X attempting to restrain her. But the Shi'ar then arrived and teleported everyone onto their flagship.
It was then announced that Dark Phoenix/Jean Grey would die and she was given a weapon as to "do the right thing". But Charles Xavier was unwilling to give up on her, yet he was romantically involved with Empress Lilandra.
So he challenged her to Arin'n Haelar, a Shi'ar Duel of Honor that could not be refused. So to fight for Charles and Lilandra were the X-Men and the Imperial Guard, respectively.
And so the next day, in the Blue Area of the Moon the duel began. The X-Men were effortlessly defeated by the Imperial Guard. Cyclops was then hit by a stray bolt causing Dark Phoenix to retake control.
And so Lilandra quickly ordered Plan Omega, meaning the whole solar system would be destroyed, in hopes of also destroying the Dark Phoenix.
The X-Men were then ordered by Professor X to help Jean regain control so that Plan Omega would no longer be necessary, and so they succeeded, for a short time.
During this time Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix took Cyclops with her to a back alley. There she said her farewell and used the Kree weapon on herself.
Uatu the Watcher comments: "Jean Grey could have lived to become a god, but it was more important to her that she died as a human."
Powers
Dark Phoenix shared all the abilities of the Omega-level mutant, Jean Grey, and added to those greatly making her one of the most powerful beings in the universe.
These powers included telepathy which branched off into many other abilities such as: telepathic cloak, cloak mind, and psionic shield which are all methods to protect one's mind from being detected or assaulted.
She can also create illusions with her telepathy and uses it to camouflage herself, allowing her to change form or become invisible.
Telepathy also allows her to manipulate the minds of others for domination. This includes mind control or possession. This also allows her to change the personality of a person however she wishes and she can induce paralysis (either physical or mental).
She can manipulate memories and transfer her mind and powers with that of another. If she touches the brow of a being she can induce mental pain or if she desired, pleasure.
She can use her powers to keep someone unconscious as long as she continues to sedate them. She can increase power levels of others to exponential levels, but only temporarily, or she can make them temporarily unable to use their powers.
Also she can create a psychic link with any being of her choice (she has one with Cyclops). She can also create psychic blasts that only effect the mind and she can sense other superhumans if they are in a close vicinity. She can project her astral form or become a psionic firebird.
Her telekinesis gives her the abilities of levitation, heat generation and creating force fields or concussive force.
She has the ability to manipulate time, space, matter and energy to virtually any degree thanks to the Phoenix Force. Also, she has utter control over life force as that is what the Phoenix Force is the embodiment of; so she can resurrect herself or others after death.
The Phoenix Force also gives her the ability of Cosmic Pyrokinesis, a control and summoning of a cosmic fire that can burn absolutely anything she desires, and she has complete control over it.
She can use her cosmic abilities to give herself superhuman strength, the limits to which are assumed virtually nonexistent.
