So i never pick up any huge Marvel event until it comes out on tpb but since its particularly small i gave it a try. Miraculously i was stunned by this issue and got me excited for the next issue of Uncanny. It also stunned me with the characterization and the plot of this whole crossover and the unseeable betrayel by Norman Osborn at the end and it was just appetizing and i hope the next couple of issues are just as good. Have nothing really to say on this because there's not much to say other than its really good.

This story starts off with a march orchestrated by a man named Simon Trask (because after the first mutant baby after M-Day is born, the U.S. has passed a law not reproduce unless they tell them to) to City Hall but are impeded by a mob of Mutants led by Beast and a riot ensues. The X-Men are back at Graymalkin Industries building watching reports of riots and Emma and Scott decide to go to city hall. Scott and Emma get into a fight with Mayor Sinclair and in doing so they find out that Norman Osborn has been pulled in to cease riots around San Fransisco. The Dark Avengers are sent in to maintain riots but some of the Avengers aren't as lucky as the other Avengers that take part in some riots (namely hawkeye). Emma slipped away from Scott to meet with Norman to find out what he wanted and she finds out that Norman has a plan to create a new team of mutants as the face of law and order with possibly Emma Frost as their leader. But we soon find out that Norman Osborn has made a big betrayal to the world which i will leave out since i already outlined most of the major points of this issue.

I loved the art and it was very clear and distinguishing with character facial features and good action scenes so i will give it a 4 out of 5

The story itself was an entertaining read and Matt Fraction wrote this very perfectly but it wasn't that perfect because of my lack of interest in the main Marvel U but it actually got me excited so i will give it a 5 out of 5 for being able to suck me in and make chipper for the next issue.

Overall i will give it a 4.5 out of 5, you will definately want to pick this up no matter what you read.

Anyone that has read Uncanny X-men since Manifest Destiny will know exactly what I'm talking about here!

It seems that in the last year Uncanny X-men has been fizzling out.  With all the attention on Wolverine and Deadpool it would appear that Marvel has shuffled Cyclops, Emma and Beast to the back burner.  No longer, In this first Avengers/X-Men Crossover in like 15 years we finally get the chance to revisit the glory days of the X-Men as center stage heroes.  Great art and amazing phrasing, the only problem is that we have to wait for the next installment!

let me just start by saying, like many of the major review sites said, wow! its got to be one of the best opening chapters that ive read to date, id say its probably better than the messiah complex opening, which i thought was pretty awsome.

now then down to the review:

in my opinion there is only 1 bad thing about the book which is the initial riot is to long to me it could of been done in a couple of pages instead of the 5 it took which is a shame as they could of included more interaction with emma and norman later on if they didnt over do the initial fight.

now then on to the good stuff.....

.... even though i said above that the fight imo lasts too long it doesnt seem like it when you readng it and that is down the Marc Silvestri’s art work which is just fantastic, i just think that his style of art complements this type of story, it has a slightly edgy feel and an unpolished look to it and by that i mean the no one seems over posed like how greg land has done the art in uncanny recently.

Even though this is the opening chapter of Utopia its not like it gets of to a slow start, we have an initial riot, the introduction of the dark avengers, 4 seperate fights against them, Norman and Emmas first meeting since he arrived in SF, her dawning the black costume (which looks amazing) and an insane cliff hanger which im seriously just like wow about the last panal is just awsome i wont give it away just incase people havent read it yet but its pretty cool, and it has something to do with the new plan norman talks about in the issue i think.

i would recomend this to anybody even somebody who isnt particularly interested in what is happening to the x-men at the momment its that good i would give it a 10 out of 10

    P.S.
Emma doesnt really feature much in this opening chapter which i found suprising as its about her x-men. However, when she does appear its very cool i really cant wait till next week to get the next chapter :D

Wow. That's it, that's all that really needs to be said to describe this issue.

I haven't been reading Uncanny X-Men at all, ever. I've read all of Dark Avengers up to this point so I knew those characters going in and read issue six that dropped today just before I read this. But this issue does a good job of setting up where all the pieces fall when this story begins, a guy named Simon Trask has started a campaign against mutants, from what I can put together, they want them to not have the right to have children. Norman Osborn is called in after the "peaceful" march of Trask's people results in a riot when they walk into mutant turf. To be fair, as much as I hate anti-mutant marches, they weren't doing anything "wrong" at this point.

So the pieces have fallen and the city at large turns to Scott Summers to ask the big question: what are you going to do about it? And what he does and how the end of that plot thread goes down were a little less than I expected, but it's a 6-part story and there is a lot of stuff going on in a very well constructed way.

The Dark Avengers come to California and basically are given the task of finding any mutant doing any crime and detaining them. This becomes a very tight line to walk for the Avengers because of course all of them are crazy to begin with, like Venom. But in a situation like this, much like in Messiah CompleX, parties have to act quickly and Osborn is able to use the riots as reason to do the things he does.

By the end of this one-shot, the whole mess is one big bigger mess. There is a cliffhanger I didn't see coming and step in the direction that could change how the X-Men universe interacts with the rest of the Marvel Universe. Story great, art fantastic, jump onto this people.
