The Crazy Following The Crazier
If you're debating on whether or not to buy this issue for the Siege banner then let me help you resolve that: There's nothing directly relevant to the event. That may change for the next issue, but this arc has to do with why the Sentry/Void obeys Norman Osborn.
As far as the Sentry/Void goes, I'm happy to say that there's no more Biblical teases. Robert Reynolds is a ret-con heavy character, but I'm glad that it's toned down here by not making him from the Bible Age. This feels a bit more grounded to me. Nothing is really revealed about The Sentry, at least not in the way that bombastic solicit says, but it's still more interesting than other things we've seen about The Sentry.
Essentially the issue starts off with some good: Norman losing his grip, and Victoria Hand smacking the Dark Avengers into some order. Then The Void behaves like a five year old while people deal with the shockwaves of such a behavior. We then get Osborn dealing with it, and, if I'm being honest, I don't quite buy how he dealt with it. It just kind of came off as flat. I figured it would take more than what Osborn did (not spoiling it) to get Void under control. Of course, there may be more to this deal as the issue's end teased, but something just feels a bit off about how Osborn continues to keep the Void/Sentry on a leash. On a side note, I also spent a good part of this issue wondering who exactly is crazier: Sentry/Void (no explantion needed) or Osborn (for not seeing how this is going to blow up in his face).
Mike Deodato continues his impressive work on the art. There's his usual attention to detail especially in terms of perspective and use of space. The way Deodato draws these characters and their world is great because it feels like a book called Dark Avengers. It makes me excited that Deodato got the Secret Avengers gig because his work here, and on the entire run of the book, has been very strong.
Overall, this is a solid read. Not spectacularly outstanding, but definitely entertaining especially since the Sentry/Void is the central figure here (for me, that's saying a lot).
