Matt Murdock, blind defense attorney by day, protector of Hell's Kitchen (Marvel's New York) by night- ironically the same toxic waste that disabled him released his superpower- hypersenses and radar.

Origin

Matthew Murdock was of Irish decent and was raised by a single father and boxer Battling Jack Murdock. They lived together in Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood in New York City. As Matt grew up, Jack would constantly tell Matt the importance of education and non-violence hoping his son could grow up successful and become a better man. Jack would decline teaching his son to fight, and Matt quickly became a target for bullies at school where they dubbed him sarcastically “Daredevil.” Matt would begin training out of frustration in secret.

One day, Matt attempted to save a blind man from being hit by an on-coming truck. Matt was successful but was unfortunately blinded in the process by radioactive substances that were on the truck. Now blinded, but due to the radioactivity that he was exposed to it heightened every other sense of his. Matt was able to detect any object around him, but he was unable to control it and sometimes his powers would go haywire. He had trouble concentrating on just one sensory and often felt overloaded due to the sensitivity of his natural four remaining senses. Matt would meet a man named Stick, who is also blind but a martial artist. Stick would teach Matt how to control his new abilities. He showed Matt how to mentally project images of the objects around him, which would develop his radar sense. Matt continued with school to honor his father’s wishes of him excelling in studies. Matt would eventually be able to enroll in Columbia School of Law. After passing the bar Matt began his successful career as a lawyer. While in his profession, he encountered criminals and innocents when prosecuting and defending them. He often used his special abilities in a court of law to help him determine whether or not someone as lying or being truthful. Realistically, Matt sent as much guilty men to prison as a lawyer as he did as Daredevil. Matt also learned of Kingpin, and is entire organization while being a lawyer. Matt at one time targeted the Kingpin and prosecuted quite a few of his associates and hired henchmen.

Matt and Elektra

During college, Matt meets Elektra. The two quickly fell in love and started dating. Elektra and her father would later be kidnapped by terrorists and Matt would wear a mask and try to save the two of them. During the fight, Elektra’s father was killed and left Elektra to grieve. Elektra would break up with Matt and leave Columbia College to return to her homeland and study martial arts. She vowed to avenge her father's death and would not allow anyone, or anything to distract her, this was why she left Matt. While Elektra was sharpening her skills as a both a martial artist and assassin, she still loved Matt.

Jack became an enforcer for a crook and boxing manager named The Fixer. The Fixer promised Jack rigged matches for Jack to win to revive his boxing career for helping the Fixer. Eventually Jack earned a title match but the Fixer tells Jack that he has to throw the game. With Matt in the crowd, Jack did not want to throw the fight and ends up winning by knockout. Fixer would end up killing Jack for not throwing the fight.

After the death of his father, Matt became disappointed in the Judicial System for not being able to convict the man who was obviously responsible. Matt kept his father’s promise not to lead a violent life, and decides to create a costume and use a new identity to fight for justice. He made his black and yellow costume out of his father’s boxing robes. Matt makes his appearance finally as a fighter for justice named Daredevil. Daredevil eventually tracks down the Fixer and the men who murdered his father and sends them to prison. Knowing that he could do good with his abilities, and fight for justice both in and out of the court Matt decided to make his Daredevil persona a permanent one.

Matt and Widow

Life as Daredevil

While Matt continued work as Daredevil, he continued to study in his school work and would eventually graduate at the top of his class. After college, he and his best friend Foggy Nelson, would open their own law practice named Nelson & Murdock. They would then hire Karen Page to become their secretary. During his adventures as Daredevil, he has teamed up with Black Widow, Stilt-Man, and Bullseye. Bullseye would later become one of Daredevil’s most hated villains. Bullseye was responsible for the death of Elektra. She was later revived by Stone, an ally of Stick.

When Black Widow and Matt fell in love, the two moved out to San Francisco and lived with each other. They lived together for awhile but Black Widow did not like playing Daredevil’s sidekick. She wanted to stay a solo heroine and ended up ending their relationship. Afterwards, Matt moved back to Hell’s Kitchen and Matt and Black Widow remain friends.

Life’s Not Fair

Later Daredevil becomes an enemy of the Kingpin, who had taken his former lover Elektra as his assassin. Kingpin also had employed another assassin, Bullseye. Later Bullseye would murder Elektra with her own sai, to become Kingpin’s main assassin.

Daredevil and Kingpin

Daredevil becomes enraged at Bullseye and began to seek revenge. Daredevil battles Bullseye and throws him out of the window. Bullseye had his spinal column reinforced with Adamantium, which is the reason he survived the fall. Bullseye and Daredevil are bitter enemies. Bullseye is the one enemy who always tries to attack Daredevil by interfering in his personal life.

Later Karen Page returns as a heroin-addicted porn star, she sells Daredevil’s secret identity to the Kingpin. Kingpin uses his newly found information to make Matt’s life a living hell. He destroys his reputation as a lawyer, blows up his house, and almost makes Matt go insane. Matt and Karen were able to reunite at the end as lovers.

Daredevil later encounters Mysterio who is dying from cancer due to overexposure to his mist. Mysterio tries to make Daredevil save his life by making him believe that he was trying to save a reborn baby Jesus. Mysterio also hires Bullseye to attack the church and would battle Daredevil. In the end, Karen Page was killed by Bullseye. Later, a man would appear to have killed Kingpin under the order of Vanessa Fisk, then he would exchange Daredevil’s identity FBI protection. The story gets printed in the Daily Globe and Matt is outed as Daredevil. Matt tries to deny the allegations by filing a libel lawsuit against the newspaper. Matt would later hire Luke Cage and Jessica Jones to become his bodyguards. Things do not get any better when he was defending White Tiger in a case which he was not actually innocent. White Tiger was found guilty of manslaughter and ran out of the courtroom, resulting in the police shooting him to death.

The New Kingpin

Matt would later meet a blind woman named Milla Donovan. He quickly falls in love with her and the two began dating. While this was happening, Owl had been trying to become the new Kingpin by selling MGH (Mutant Growth Hormone). Later Daredevil discovers that the Kingpin was actually not dead and Daredevil would soon confront him. He beats Kingpin to a pulp badly that sends him to the hospital, Daredevil proceeds to claiming Hell’s Kitchen to himself and declares him the new Kingpin.

Later Matt was able to win his case against the Daily Globe which rewarded him with a multi-million dollar settlement, which he invests in a local community for the children. Matt would then marry Milla Donovan, but later Ben Urich would try to convince Matt that he had a nervous breakdown due to the death of Karen Page. This resulted in Milla annulling their marriage. Matt would later be arrested and imprisoned in Ryker’s with the allegation that he was Daredevil again. While in prison, Matt was able to hear and was unable to stop Foggy being killed inside the prison. Meanwhile, there was a new Daredevil jumping around rooftops in Hell’s Kitchen. Later Matt was able to escape from Ryker’s thanks to the Punisher who pretended to take Matt hostage during the riot. After Matt was free, he took his mantle of Daredevil again and went to search the mysterious new Daredevil. He finally encounters him and discovers that it as his friend from Heroes For Hire, Danny Rand a.k.a. Iron Fist. He hoped that with him dressed up as Daredevil, it would clear any connection Matt had with Daredevil.

Recently

Daredevil later flees the country because he was outed as Daredevil again. While in Europe, Matt continued his work as Daredevil and fought some criminal organizations. He later meets a woman who had the same smell as Karen Page. Later Matt would discover that this whole thing was a plan of Vanessa Fisk. She offered him a deal to clear Matt’s name in exchange for him taking Wilson’s case and setting him free. Matt agreed to this and returned to America with his name now cleared. He later discovers that Foggy was alive all along and was under the care of the FBI. Matt then takes the case for Wilson and was able to set him free as long as he leaves the country.

With Fisk gone, many would-be supervillains want to fill in as the new Kinpin. One such character is Mr. Fear who's first move was to distribute a drug that makes the person a death-defying psychotic. And in order to make Daredevil's life more miserable, Mr. Fear gave the same drug to his wife Milla Donovan. But Daredevil could not be more busy in crime-fighting because of his recent confrontation with the The Hood, who also want to fill in as the new Kingpin.

Other Daredevils
During the events of Civil War, Daniel Rand (Iron Fist) masqueraded as Daredevil and supported Captain America's Secret Avengers.

Powers

Upon losing his sight, Daredevil's other senses have been greatly enhanced. He can 'read' the impressions on a printed paper with his fingertips. He can detect changes in the body temperature and can determine if and how long a body has been dead. He can distinguish people by their scents and heartbeat. This ability allows him to detect if someone is lying. His sense of taste is highly acute. Most important is his "radar sense" which gives him sonar type abilities. He can sense vibrations all around him which helps him determine fairly exact readings of his surroundings. Daredevil's main downfall is he can be overwhelmed and subsequently disoriented by excessive noise. He is highly trained in different styles of fighting such as boxing and ninjutsu. Matt carries a cane which doubles as a billy club which contains several feet of high tension cable.

Daredevil is an Olympic level athlete with extraordinary balance, skill, agility, and endurance. Daredevil was discovered young by a man named Stick. Stick was a martial arts master and trained Matt to polish his abilities and become a highly skilled hand to hand combatant. He is a Master of various oriental martial arts and American boxing. His training regiment consists not only of fighting and agility drills, but also includes weightlifting. Daredevil is extremely strong, able to lift/press 450 lbs. Due to Daredevils heightened senses, it makes him highly tuned to his body and increases both his coordination and balance well beyond that of the average man. He has uncanny control over his body and senses making feats that seem impossible very easy for him to do, hence the name Daredevil.
