To The Devil, His Due; Part five (of five)

Ed Brubaker might not be as well known to the average comic book reader as Brian Bendis or Mark Miller, but that's not going to last very long. Everything Brubaker writes is entertaining. He's currently writing Captain America, Uncanny X-Men, Criminal and co-writing Immortal Iron Fist... and each of those titles deliver every month. Daredevil is no exception. You could read Brian Bendis' phenomenal run on The Man Without Fear and go right into Brubaker's run and you'd have a hard time guessing where one ended and the other began. While his style does compliment what came before, it's still Brubaker's style. His love for crime noir fiction comes through in Daredevil and it works extremely well.

I have to admit that the To The Devil, His Due story arc hasn't matched his excellent Devil On Cell Block D arc, but it has managed to finish with a bang. Instead of just changing everything to what he wanted, Brubaker has managed to put new twists on elements that were already there and make them his own. He started ruining Matt Murdock's life again almost as soon as he gave it back to him. You would think that this was starting to get old, but it hasn't because the story is always looking for new ways to do it. The only minor problem this issue might have is that the big reveal at the end might be a little obscure for the average reader. I have to admit that I had to look up on the net to fully understand who a certain person was... but with that said it looks like some very interesting things are coming for Matt Murdock.

Michael Lark's pencils are also perfect for Brubaker's scripts. These two could end up having a very memorable run on this series, all they need to do is keep up what they've already been doing.
