Parts of a Hole Part 5: Trial and Error

Something that is immediately apparent from first glance at this cover is that there are three artists credited - Joe Quesada, Jimmy Palmiotti and David Mack. I'm not that up on Palmiotti's work but I do know both Joey Q and Mack and that they are both very individual, very distinctive stylists. To be honest, at first glance, I thought this was a David Mack cover - it has his use of pastel shades and fluid style art, which contrasts with Quesada's hyperbolic tough looking superheroes. If I had to make a guess, I'd reckon that Fisk is Joey Q's whilst he's left the background to Mack. Overall, the results are stunning - Kingpin seemingly sinking to the bottom of the sea (though this is only implied by the artists - we're filling in the details ourselves), trails of blood rising up from him, forming the famous Daredevil logo. It's a terrific example of a couple of big time artists coming together and producing something pretty special.
