Yet another solid book in Waid's remarkable run...
Daredevil has to be one of the biggest surprises to hit the comics market. Mark Waid promised a new Daredevil and a new direction and he has more than delivered. Issue #4 is another solid issue that really sets up Waid's second arc nicely. It's not as fluid or polished as the previous issues and it seemed to have scenes that felt almost like filler. But the meat and potatoes of this issue is Waid's great character work from the more dialogue driven pages. My favorite parts of this new Daredevil are the scenes with Matt and Foggy. We get plenty of them here and they're just as fun and entertaining as they've been. I also love the new angle with their law firm which leads directly into a final page that left me pumped for issue #5.
Paolo Rivera steps aside this issue and Marcos Martin handles the art. With Rivera's unique style you may think that having Martin take over would be a step back. Well that's not necessarily the case. Martin keeps the same look and tone to the art and his style doesn't clash with Rivera's at all. But the transition is mainly helped by Muntsa Vicente's incredible colors. She gives the book an energy and vibrancy and it's tone never misses a beat. Martin's work is a little rough around the edges on a few panels but it's hard to find a better artist to follow up what Rivera has already done.
Daredevil continues to amaze. It isn't quite as crisp as the first two issues but it's stronger than the last book. Either way it remains one of the best comics on the shelves and if you haven't jumped onto Mark Waid's new Daredevil, you're really missing out.
