Oh...You Thought I Forgot About That, Folk?
Cap wants answers for Matt's actions taken during Shadow Land and Matt discovers that his latest case has hidden layers
The Good
No false advertising on this cover, Cap and DD clash in this issue and it's a battle that plays out just as it should. Each of them using the others trademark weapon was really interesting and made for some great action moments. Waid manages to make him flawed in this issue without writing him out of character. That's something that's very, very rarely done and extremely difficult to pull off. Those that were worried that Waid wouldn't address Shadow Land can relax because he does so masterfully this issue.
Normally Foggy's the wing man and Matt the lady killer. Turns out Foggy has some impressive moves of his own. One would assume there're are some strict rules about the ADA dating a defense attorney. Waid has a real talent for writing relationships and the subtle flirtation between Foggy and Kirstin is perfectly handled.
I like that Matt engages in some detective work to make headway on the Jabroni case. What he discovers leads him into conflict with a classic Marvel villain which I can wait to see go down.
This may seem like something minor but I love the way that Waid writes and Rivera draws Matt as a blind man. Waid does a good job of describing how Matt takes in sensory information in a very naturalistic manner. The conversation with Gene Loren is a great example of this as well as his recognition of Steve based on his heart beat rhythm.
Rivera's art is absolutely gorgeous on this book! And the way he presents Matts POV is one of the most visually interesting things in comics. This is one of the first times that I've truly felt like I'm "seeing" the world through Matt's eyes
The Bad
Waiting for the next.
The Verdict
BUY THIS COMIC!!!!
Last issue was not a fluke, Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera are just that damned good! Daredevil looks to be heading in a great direction as of now all I can see are blue skies ahead.
