Paris, Montparnasse. In Rue Delambre there is a house of horrors. Along with Victor, a new friend who is a bizarre poet and chansonnier in love with the hibernating vampire Araxe, Harlan Draka comes up against the mystery of the mansion that has a curse on it, built in the eighteenth century by the demoniacal architect Tenardier.
Dampyr travels to Paris, where he meets Victor, the guardian of the sleep of Araxe, Mistress of the Night in "hibernation", who asks to help him defeat a arch-vampire that wants to dominate his whole race. Verdier, the arch-vampire, has become almost an integral part of a house built by an architect-alchemist specifically to accommodate it.
