By now you should be aware that Damian Wayne is dead. The most recent Robin and son to Batman died a brutal death. We've been all waiting for his possible return or resurrection. Could that day be coming soon?

Yes and no.

DC Comics has announced Damian's return in a four-issue miniseries written and drawn by Andy Kubert this October.

DAMIAN: SON OF BATMAN will flash-forward to the potential future where Damian takes on the mantle of the Bat.

But isn't he dead?

We all know that no one really stays dead in comics. Also, this is and, always has been, a potential future.

In a NY Post exclusive, Kubert states his fondness for the future first seen in BATMAN #666.

"Basically what I'm doing is exploring the path Damian has taken to become Batman. I think readers will see him in a different light than before."

This still doesn't mean Damian will return in the current comics. But it also doesn't mean that he won't. As great as BATMAN #666 was and the world we were introduced to, this should be a great read. We may not know what the present may hold but this gives us a chance to see what the future could possibly sort of give us.

...So future Damian gets his own miniseries? This will keep B-C level tier characters out of a series whilst we have another Bat book instead.

Aww man i prefer the 'current' 10/11 year-old Damian :( I was hoping he'd be back somehow. They should do a mini-series of the Damian adventures we haven't seen, maybe HAWKEYE-esque?

A Bat book to read after Inc ends. I was wondering if this series was going to launch. So with this and Multiversity it looks like DC will only keep Damian around in elseworlds.

For me, what really made the 666 world interesting was the new generation of bad guys. Jackanapes, the Weasel, Max Roboto, the unseen but mentioned Candyman, Loveless and Sphinx, and an aged Flamingo, Pyg and Phosphorus Rex. Morrison stated that he had back-stories all laid out for these characters, so hopefully he gave those notes to Kubert to expand on. I hope this miniseries is a text-run and if sales are great, they'll make it an ongoing series.

Hopefully this will somehow lead to Damian returning in the present. Either way, I'll be reading this series. Curious though if this will follow the same timeline as we saw recently in Batman, Incorporated as Damian appeared to have been killed alongside the rest of Gotham in the future...unless that future has been altered due to what is currently happening in the present? Boy, now I am excited! ^_^

He meant that it doesn't count as one of the 52 ongoing series. This isn't taking away from another non-Batman character getting a book

This coupled with the fact that Batman and Robin returns to being called Batman and Robin in September makes me think his return will be happening sooner rather than later.

I hope we get cameos from other future DC characters, like maybe a grown up Kara? Or even younger ones such as Sin (Black Canary's ex-foster daughter and next Shiva)

If I have the space in my pull list, I'll definitely check this out.

I miss Damian, I really can't wait for this! I do hope it paves the way towards his return eventually. He's a character that shouldn't stay dead, he's far too interesting and enjoyable.

That's a strange choice to want the characters in the series to be mourning and reacting to a character death, but then talk about what that same character is like in the future. It undermines the drama of their mourning.

No one is under the impression that Damian is never returning. It's just questionable why they are doing this now. The kid's barely been dead for that long. They couldn't wait till at least six months?

The whole point of Blackest Night was to establish that dead is dead in the DC Universe. That said, has the New 52 done anything with Lazarus Pits yet? I figure that's how they'll eventually bring Damian back without technically cheating, if they're going to bring him back.

Morrison would excite me more. Most artists that start writing are pretty mediocre at it... Tony Daniel for example. Lets hope Kubert falls in the surprisingly good camp, like Francis Manapul and J.H.Williams III.

I know before the New 52 we got to see a grown-up version of Superboy in that Batman 666 universe so I'm hoping to see him again!

I think it's been established that Jason Todd was brought back to life by the Lazarus Pit already. So we know it's still around at least.

If this sells well then DC will probably bring Damian back sooner rather than later, everyone go out and buy this series!

This should be an ongoing. I love stories that take place in alternate timelines. Ala Age of Apocalypse. That was my favorite series until it was ruined by a horrible crossover that should never have happened.
