He married her, and she had his child.  She was the main reason he couldn't bring himself to be with Jean when X-Factor re-formed.   She joined the X-Men after Cyclops walked out on her.  And there wouldn't have been much of a story to Inferno without her.

You do realise that's exactly how Warpath discovered he could fly :p  Rant and comparisons to Hitler aside, this is comic books.  It makes as much sense as the writer wants it to.  But no matter who the writer is, I still don't like Cyclops.  I don't go over the top & compare him to the likes of Hitler either.
