Power Question SPOILERS!

Ok I just got the latest issue Astonishing X-Men and Cyclops was able to walk around and see without his glasses or his visor. Not only that but at will he was able to shoot his blast whenever he wanted. Did he just get a new power upgrade or what?

It's because of stuff Emma did in his mind earlier in the series.

Oh ok. Is this permanent or temporary?

#4 Posted by Hellstormer (284 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm pretty sure Whedon said it would be Temporary, but I could be wrong. It'd be nice to have it be permanent. I like seeing Scott without his visor, plus his power is no longer limited by the visor making him much stronger when he does use his beams.

Thanks for the info.

He looks weird without the visor.

Doubt it's permanent simply because the visor is Cyclops' defining costume piece and I don't see that changing any time soon. Scott even said not to get used to it.

Could be argued that the visor focuses his blasts more than it limits them.

Hadn't thought of that, I just always considered him more powerful without it because it doesn't have to pass through the visor. Plus, and I know this isn't canon, but in X-Men Evolution he took off his visor to use his beam at full power, but you're right it could focus the beam.

Astonishing X-Men hasn't really been canon with the Marvel Universe either.

#10 Posted by Buckshot (18914 posts) - - Show Bio

Is it that it's not canon or that it's taking place at a different (earlier) time than other current X-Men comics?

At first I thought it was taking place before like Civil War or House of M. Also since it was taking so long to come out with each issue, plus Whedon never really elaborates on it either. Then I read something somewhere that said it wasn't canon (trying to find where I read it from). But it's kind of weird that the main X team didn't have any tie ins to the main events (most likely due to the delays), so in short, I'm not definitely sure either.

If you find that source lemme know. Sorta related, have you seen Kitty in Messiah Complex? Everyone else from Astonishing is there but I don't specifically remember Kitty. Looking at her predicament at the end of Astonishing's latest issue, there could be a reason for that. Either that or I'm just blind.

Gambler says:

"But with everything going on in the X-books, fans might wonder where Ellis and Bianchi's run on ASTONISHING will fit on. "Ellis and Bianchi's run will take place in the aftermath of 'Messiah CompleX.' Like all the X-Men titles, it will have to reconcile the power shifts, deaths and seismic changes that occurred in the event," explains Alonso.

That's the upcoming Astonishing team. The current one (Whedon and Cassady) is before Messiah Complex (as is confirmed by your other post). That's what I figured.

Gambler says:

"She was there. At the mansion before Exodus attacked, and Emma contacted her telepathically right after Mystique betrayed them and the Marauders showed up."

So she lives, cool beans.

I believe Whedon said in Wizard that it's in continuity, but it's kinda in the background and glazes through the big events. The whole thing takes place after M-Day and kinda before and during Civil War. The next arc will be after Messiah. Again I have to double check that.
