Does the Marvel Movie Universe truly need the X-Men?

Posted by Smart_Dork_Dude (2518 posts) - - Show Bio

Does it? With all the characters Marvel has, I think it can stand on it's own. Besides, just because Fox has the rights to X-Men doesn't mean Marvel Studios can't use the concept of mutants. They could still use villains or characters that are mutants that haven't been apart of the X-Men or Brotherhood and still make them mutants. Have the concept open with guys like Whirlwind, Mandrill, or even make original mutant characters. I think the last one would be a great idea, kind of like a testing ground for new mutant ideas, this way they get to show that mutants do exist for whenever they manage to get the rights back to Marvel. They could even bring in the Shi'ar so we could have a Thor VS Gladiator fight and considering Shi'ar are aliens I think they could have a different team make first contact with them since this is an official alternate universe from the comics.

Yes.

Yes it does.

Don't get me wrong, I want to see them make it into the MCU too. However I also know it'll most likely be a loooooong time before Marvel gets the movie rights back, so what's wrong with them setting up the concept for when they do get them back?

Yes, otherwise everyone would be an Avenger. Oh wait?

Need? No Want? Yes. As much as I think Wolverine is over exposed I'd give my left thumb to see Hulk vs Wolverine in live action, also why I want F4 brought in to see live Action Hulk vs Thing

@god_spawn: Or a Defender, or a Thunderbolt, or a Marvel Knight

#6 Posted by infonation (1665 posts) - - Show Bio

@Smart_Dork_Dude: Maybe the X-Men get sucked into another dimension for awhile and the MARVEL universe has to do without them until they can get back! They could probably use a nice long vacation anyway!

#7 Posted by cattlebattle (12273 posts) - - Show Bio

Nope...

Mutants existing with other superhumans has always been ridiculous anyways, Marvel makes it work.....barely

#8 Posted by God_Spawn (35980 posts) - - Show Bio

@Smart_Dork_Dude: It was a joke. With the Uncanny Avengers coming up it seems half the mutant populous will be Avengers too slowly ridding the MU of what little X-Men are left. Now we will have multiple X-Men in Avengers books and multiple Avengers constantly in X-Men books. There won't really be any real mutant factions anymore without some form of Avenger tie in. So at this rate the only hope for real X-Men factions would be if Cyclops still stays segregated from the Avengers. We might have sub mutant teams running like X-Force or X-Factor (haven't paid too much attention to them so idk what's going on with them anymore so correct if I'm wrong on them) but there will probably be SOME kind of Avenger involvement eventually. Cyclops is really all the real X-Men truly have anymore. I don't consider Warren, Beast, Storm or anyone on Wolverine's team real X-Men anymore. It's either Cyclops' team or you're not an X-man anymore. You're some sub group of just another Avenger team.

@cattlebattle: I have to agree with you an that regard. Sure it's fun to see the X-Men interact with the rest of the heroes, well used to be before nearly all of them were Avengers at some point, but in a world full of superpowered individuals who aren't mutants what's with all the hate? Yes they're different, but no one gives the F4 crap, or Thor who could just be a really powerful guy with a hammer for all most people could've known, or Captain America(Granted he's only just borderline superhuman), or Spider-Man. Actually I'm surprised JJ never accused Spidey of being a mutant.

Exactly. Sure, its just fiction and your not supposed to really think about it too much but other than that how is anyone telling all these superhumans apart?? Is there a televison show in the Marvel reality??

CIVILIAN: Please save me

LASER EYE MAN: I will help you

CIVILIAN: Thank you Laser Eye Man, your powers are sooo wondrous

CYCLOPS: let me lend a hand Laser eye MAn, we will combine our laser eyes

CIVILIAN: A mutant?!! GTFO....

I would be willing to except the fact that its nitpicking but the whole mutant oppression detail is a huge part of the X-Men lore

The main reason I liked the X-Men films was because it was a universe where the only people who had superpowers were mutants!

"Fox will either lose the rights to the X-men, or they will continue to show X-men movies long enough to make me hate them."

"No Marvel, once the X-men stop making us money, then you have my permission to use them."

Me too, the whole X-Men film universe is more realistic and plausible and I think its amazing, well, some movies not so much.......I honestly think if Marvel Studios were to make an X-Men film it would probably be bland with too much CGI and silly looking costumes. I'll admit, I thought Avengers was great, but it was kind of a simplistic movie all in all, and other than that movie all the other Marvel Studio movies were nothing amazing, they were all kind of mediocre movies. I would actually prefer the X-Men rights stay separate for the time being

Of course. They're by far some of the most interesting characters in comics. I don't think I'd be as big a comics fan as I am now without Kid Omega , Magneto or Daken. Also without the x-men we wouldn't have deadpool which is a world I don't want to think about.

I believe they need Wolverine.

While the Avengers have been the focus of the last 5 years, the X-Men were the top franchise of the past 4 decades. With the massive success of the properties handled by Marvel Studios, one can only imagine what they have in mind if they had the rights back. If Marvel wants to really show the fans a Cinematic Universe that ties in all their other movies they need to have the X-Men involved. Other characters like Daredevil, Elektra, etc would be nice, but none would have the impact of bringing the X-Men into the fold.

There is a concerted effort  by Marvel to make everything all about the Avengers. This is partly due to the movie rights, they do not want to give Fox any more material to use in hopes of getting the rights back at some point. I figure there will be a backlash at some point where the X-Men seperate themselves from the Avengers when Marvel determines there needs to be a shake up in a year or two, but for now we are stuck with a nutered X-Men being subservient to Marvels Avengers plan.

thats always been crazy about Marvel

prejudice against mutants, I know they were symbolically minorities but why not of other super beings

@Blood1991: If Fox drops the rights to Marvel and Disney, I'd welcome it. Hugh Jackman would fit right in with the cast. He's high profile and he does his character well.

I would only be ok with that if the X-Men had at least two films before hand and I want them done right with more equal focus on the cast.

Cameo wouldn't bother me, but I would prefer for Fury to straight up tell him "you have potential come back in about five years" He was portrayed too young to be an Avenger in my opinion.

That and Luke and Danny are kids. The only good I see that comes out of it is more Dr. Strange, Iron Fist and White Tiger exposure.

@Blood1991: Well Nova, even this version has been promoted in any other show, and it looks like they wanted a mid tier power character, to balance the roster

I rather meh about the cartoon. I basically just record it in the hope I get to see Iceman and Firestar in an episode.

The mash ups are offensive to my eyes and ears after DC Nation. Marvel either needs to step up or just stop with that.
