"Think like a pirate." The #1 rule.

Yesterday's review. Cyclops is BACK with a new [solo] monthly title! This isn't the Cyclops of the present; instead the one from the past! Stuck here in the present with the other First X-Men, young Cyclops is just trying to find his place in the world. And that place might be with his father!

    The Good

Are you ready to share an adventure?
Are you ready to share an adventure?

In this issue, we get a taste of the adventures that Cyclops and his father, Corsair, will be sharing in the coming months. Not liking the man he will become; Cyclops decides to join his father as a Starjammer to learn how to become a real man and make a future that he will embrace and not fear. In short; pirates, heroes, and space! What more could you want?

I really enjoyed this first issue! I had no idea what to expect from this series nor what Cyclops would be leading this new monthly title! So seeing as I had no expectations for this book, it didn't take a long time for me to realize that this was going to be an interesting adventure. With young Cyclops partnering up with his father in space as a Starjammer.

I like the idea of having the first X-Men members here in the present, seeing what the future will be like. It really shows a great contrast between their time and the now, as the future [or present] is really dark and bleak. I enjoy how young Cyclops hates his future self for all the things he's done, and hasn't done, and how he wants to change to become a better man. This series will obviously show a lighter side to the character and how he doesn't reflect present day Cyclops. This idea of wanting to mold Cyclops into a better person will certainly stick with this series.

Writer Greg Rucka really did an outstanding job on this first issue! He gave us a recap of the most recent events, showed us a glimpse of the Starjammers, and really laid down the foundation of Cyclops and Corsair's father and son relationship. That's going to be one of the key factors that will make or break this series, and from reading this first issue it looks like he knows what he is doing!

    That artwork!
    That artwork!

The artwork is breathtaking; probably some of the best I've seen in an X-Men [related] book. Every page has a GREAT level of detail in it, and the colors, wow! Basically having the cake and eating it too!! Artist Russell Dauterman and colorist Chris Sotomayor are the perfect art team duo and I hope they stay on this series forever! They really made a huge impact on my experience for this series!

    The Bad

No complaints. I didn't know what I was expecting so I didn't have any expectations. Really surprised with this first issue!

    The Verdict

I recommend you check out this first issue. If you didn't like the All New X-Men series, just read this first issue. It might peak your interest for young Cyclops and his adventures he will be having on a monthly bases!! 5 out of 5.
