    Sweet Cyclops, Oh Wait

So I am a huge Cyclops fan, that said I had high hopes for this book. I try to never to have really high expectations for books that way I wont be let down for a book that is just average. What I hoped for this one-shot is that it would be like Marvel Girl, an excellent telling of a story for a character that really makes you think about the character in a new way. What I got is another First Class cameo book.

A common problem with the First Class Books are that they are a place to show case stories involving other Marvel characters. They show the connections that the X-Men have made early on. What most lack are substance. The Marvel Girl One-Shot had no cameo and was just a great story. Cyclops had a bizarre cameo that really was not necessary.

    The Cover is amazing.
The Interior art is based on the original comic art, trying to date the book, in some respects it made the book flatter than I would Like.
The writing was okay, not amazing but not far from what I expect from Cyclops.

Development: I think seeing Cyclops from the start gives a better understanding of the character now. I have seen this done very well in other books so here it just shows that he doesn't want to be called up-tight by Jean. The Art of War references were a nice touch, I believe that Cyclops would read and try to live by that in his early days as a leader.

Overall the book had a lot of potential that I think  it did not live up to. Die hard fans may be disappointed.

Normally, I'm not a big fan of the "character poses on the front and that's it" types of covers, but it works for Cyclops. As evidence in this very issue, a cover with just him posing can still be visually exciting when you factor in his power. In addition, Cyclops is a bit of a loner, though through his often times standoff-ish attitude, not by choice, and you can look at t...
