When the mother of teenager Wes Mendes gets kidnapped by specters, he is plunged into an underground city where the human and magic worlds collide. There, Wes teams up with a group of kids and their magical creatures and leads them on a quest to rescue his mom.
Creature Academy honors, yet subverts the tropes we expect in coming-of-age fantasy and superhero stories. Wes, the young hero, is no "Chosen One," and the mentors he finds may not be wise or good at all.
