Keanu Reeves discusses some delays in the film's production...

I know a lot of people are really looking forward to seeing the live-action 'Cowboy Bebop' movie which is set to star Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview with MTV, however, Reeves cited that the film has been delayed due to a re-write of the script.

"There's a draft of the script, but the writer did such a good job that in order to make the movie you would need half a million dollars...the studio kind of just went 'this movie is fantasic; but it needs half a billion dollars!" So he's doing a rewrite."

When asked what he he would like to see additionally in the film, Reeves cited that the script already has everything. There is no question that the reason why it would probably cost so much to develop is because the live-action film is set in space. I can also see some of the hesitation on the part of the movie studios considering it has been a very long time since Reeves headlined a film that was successful at the box office. How do you think this one will fare? I am really looking forward to seeing the live action film, and I feel like it would be worth the wait. What do you guys think?

There are some anime out there that would make for good live action movies (i think), and then there are some that shouldnt be touched at all.

This is one that needs to be left animated and not made into live action. I really just don't see this being pulled off at all and it being done right, script or not, even more so with Keanu as the Spike. Don't get me wrong, I got nothing against him as a person or as an actor, but just leave Cowboy Bebop an anime and nothing more.

Keanu as Spike you say? Unless they dub in Steven Blum's voice over the top his I'll pretend this movie doesn't exist.

I don't believe Reeves is a nuanced enough actor to portray the character to it's full depth.

Also, on the studio calling for re-writes, i'm calling shenanigans on the financial reasons. I have the feeling that they read it through, thought, "this will go over way to many peoples (the average american movie-goer's) head." and then called for re-writes to dumb it down because they have little to no faith in their audience.

When I heard Reeve had been cast to play Spike in a Cowboy Bebop movie. I thought it was just a silly joke to mock the Dragon Ball live action movie. I feel about this the same way I felt about that Dragon Ball live action movie.

Stop IT NOW!! Before the eyes of the innocent are tainted with this bile of a film!!

Best way I think I could describe this to you if don't know about Cowboy Bebop and just how wrong this is. Imagine Wonder Woman being portrayed in a live action film by Pamela Anderson. Oh yeah, it's that bad.
This movie doesn't need a re-writing. It needs an un-writting.

This seems very bad. I think Reeves would make a terrible Spike. Hollywood should just stick to their own ideas. Did they not learn anything from Dragonball Evolution, which was laughably bad?

Ugh, please God no. Coming from a huge Bebop fan I must say: DO NOT WANT.

Whatever, even if it happens, it's not like I have to watch. Seriously though, this is a stupid idea.

Keanu isn't a bad actor anc Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite animes of all time. I really hope he does justice to the character of Spike, he has the fighting down. Lets just hope that the script is as good as they say, I have faith Keanu won't be that bad in the role.

CB was an anime first. two spin-off mangas were created afterwards. but i agree with you/

What does that have to do with anything? Actors get attached to movie and leave them all the time, man. Did you know a totally-different actor was set to play Wolverine (Dougray Scott), almost right up until the first day of shooting? Things happen; Keanu could (hopefully) get tired of waiting for the Studio, and move-on to other projects. At least, I'm really, really hoping that happens, if a "Cowboy Bebop" live action film just HAS to happen. Which it doesn't since, you know, the ANIMATED one was perfectly-fine. Damn Hollywood...

I tell everyone the dougray scott thing, I live in los angless and the first xmen director was gay so he couldn't keep his mouth shut about the movie out in west hollywood. And of course all of the other men he tried to impress were publishing all of the gossip online. My buddy who gets me into screenings all the time (gay dude who knows singer) was telling me all this stuff back in the day. So I know most of this crap before "industry" or "aint it cool" knows about it.
The point being is Keanu Reeves plays a damn popcicle stick in every movie, emotionless, colorless, stale, un interesting besides the flavor of ice creme he reeks of. Then that is where he shines. Dork in the matrix, martial artist bad ass out of nowhere. Spike is known for his nonchalantness and martial arts and keanu would be perfect for that.

Making a Cowboy Bebop live action movie would be would be incredibly difficult without it being a gigantic mockery of the series.
They should just make a "Lost Tales" of CB animated movie.
Keanu Reeves........ I suppose he could pull it off.... He's not Asian though- which I'd imagine Spike is because of his hair.

Would anyone sign a petition to urge the studio not to make this film?

totally agree. all live action versions of mangas look like a bad cosplay event. hopefully they do it right, because if they dont this will only deepen the resentment of anti-keanu people. i personally think he's not that bad of an actor, there's just some roles that arent for him.
