Copycat was abandoned by her parents due to her obvious mutation. She grew up on the streets, and eventually became a prostitute. She used her shape-shifting abilities to hide her true form from her clients.

One of her clients was Wade Wilson, a mercenary who would later become known as Deadpool. She was fixated on Wade Wilson, and dreamt of him as her knight and they'd live happily ever after.

However, this wasn't to be. Wade Wilson realized he had cancer and decided that he'd rather have Vanessa hate him than wait for him to die, so he left her.

Vanessa, now calling herself Copycat, would run into Wade Wilson again in the Weapon X program. She revealed to Wade Wilson the truth about herself and they worked together for a short time before Wade Wilson was sent to Weapon-X's hospice to die.

Copycat went on to infiltrate X-Forcefor over a year pretending to be Domino. But due to the bonds she formed with the team, she was unable to accomplish her mission of killing them.

Her true identity was finally revealed by Wade Wilson, now calling himself Deadpool, who also failed in his mission to kill X-Force.

Copycat, Garrison Kane, Deadpool and Weasel, Juggernaut and Black Tom Cassidy all found themselves chasing after a will.

During a fight with Slayback, Copycat was fatally wounded, but Deadpool gave her his healing powers to save her life.

It was hard for her to tell Deadpool that she was now in a relationship with Garrison Kane when Deadpool wanted to get back together with her.

Copycat wouldn't stay with Garrison Kane for long and crossed paths with Deadpool many times... usually stalking him.

She first attempted pretending to be Titania, and both her and Constrictor (not knowing she was Copycat) became roommates with Deadpool for a while, trying to collect what he owes "them."

After Deadpool revealed that he knew she was Copycat, they parted ways again. But she'd continue to stalk Deadpool, flirting with Deadpool and going on dates with him disguised as other women. But Deadpool knew it was her all along.

Despite the unsolved tension between them, they attempted to re-new their romantic relationship. But Copycat's insecurities got the better of her and she broke up with Deadpool.

Deadpool and Copycat would eventually meet again when both are recruited in the reformed Weapon-X program. However, they decided to escape together and Garrison Kane was ordered to kill both of them. Deadpool fought off Garrison Kane while Copycat fled, but she was fatally wounded by Sabretooth.

Deadpool frantically attempted to give her his healing factor, but she wasn't able to hold onto life long enough to copy his power. She died in Deadpool's arms, confessing her eternal love for him.
