A Contract With God is a graphic novel that includes four stories:

A Contract With God

Frimme Hersh is an immigrant from Europe who lives at a tenement building on 55 Dropsie in New York. A baby girl is left at his apartment and he raises her as his own, until she dies suddenly and he accuses God of breaking their contract.

The Street Singer

Eddie is a street singer who one day is discovered by Diva Marta Maria. She promises to help him with a singing career, she gives him money to buy a new suit and clean himself up. Unfortunately he uses the money to buy booze and drinks it away.

The Super

The story of Scruggs the super of 55 Dropsie who meets a young girl from the building and makes some wrong choices.

Cookalein

The tenement dwellers plan for their vacation, though vacation doesn't go as planned for some.
