Didn't see this posted. Apparently Stan Lee Studios has sued for the rights to the conan franchise. Note this isn't Stan himself,they apparently sued him at one point too.

They don't have a chance.. Conan along with many of the stories written by Robert E Howard about said character are in the public domain. So that means anyone can use them for any purpose. Sorry Stan Lee Studios you're just wasting your time, but I am sure Lionsgate will share the movie expense with you if you really want a share of the profit.

If what you're saying in the case, though, it makes me wish Stan Lee Studios would drop the suit and channel the funds into making an actual decent Conan film.

Yes Conan is a licensed property, but that does not mean the character isn't in the public domain, many of the the early R E Howard early Conan stories do fall into the public domain. You can have a copyrighted version and a public domain version... just look at the characters used by Dynamite for PSP, those characters are public domain, but the characters Dynamite put their spin on falls under their copyright, or another example is DCs Blue Beetle, the original Blue Beetle, Dan Garret is in public domain. Just like Captain Marvel, the name is copyright by Marvel, but some of the Golden Age appearances of Captain Marvel do fall under public domain, and then some fall under DCs copyright. So really Conan is public domain and a licensed property.

Like Tarzan he is not Public Domain, both Tarzan and Conan may have some stories that are in the Public Domain but if you tried to use them you would indeed be sued by the estates.
