One of the Greatest Fantasy Heroes of All Time

And so it begins! Dark Horse's run at Robert E. Howard's Conan. They state they will be faithful to the Robert E. Howard vision of Conan and not all the pastiche's that followed. This should be good. Nobody comes close to Howard's Conan. I have read a tons of Conan books but not the comics. A couple of the Marvels long ago, they was alright... but, Dark Horse looks like they are going to adapt the actual Howard stories in an attempted chronological order! That should be something to see.

This is just a sampling/introduction to Conan. Some prince and his advisor, Wazir discover a cave with treasure in it. Also in the cave sits a statue on a mighty throne. The statue is of some unknown king, called Conan. The prince seeks the history of this unknown king. The advisor finds it.

I've never read much of Conan before, and all of my previous experience with the character was with the (admittedly, pretty fun) 1970s flick (starring none other than the Govenator himself!). So, I approached a little wary.Thankfully, from page one, this comic caught me and wouldn't let go. First off, the art is incredible. The team did a amazing job, and they have a very unique style that I haven't seen in any other comics-the only thing I can think of to compare it to would be Gunslinger Born ...

      Lackluster Fantasy History 0

All series benefit from an introduction, but do they need to be lifeless? A prince discovers some treasure and a bunch of scrolls which tell of Conan. The prince wants to hear more, but he's the only one who's interested in what the scrolls have to say. I empathize with the adviser who shrugs reading the thin exaggerated (or not) history. Artwork could've used more effort as well....
