Chapter 1

Professor X locates the birth of a new Mutant in the small town of Cooperstown, Alaska. This birth marks a milestone because it is the first mutant child born since the Scarlet Witch de-powered over 90% of the worlds mutant population on M-Day. The instant loss of millions of mutants made mutant kind an endangered species, the mutant X-Gene being "erased" from those who were de-powered (including all stored samples of mutant DNA), as well as no other mutant children having been born since.

The birth of the mutant occured while Professor X was discussing the mutant crisis with Beast and searching out all current mutants with Cerebro. The psychic feedback resulting from the mutants birth overloaded both Professor X's brain as well as Cerebro, frying the powerful computer. It also caused a power surge within the mansion which caused all lights within the mansion to explode and power to be lost. An event of such importance would surely get the attention of others, and Xavier quickly gathered a small group of experienced X-Men to travel to Alaska in the Blackbird. The team consisted of Angel, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Emma Frost, and Cyclops. When they arrived in Cooperstown they found the town burning and virtually all of its inhabitants either dead or wounded.

While trying to rescue the remaining inhabitants and piece together exactly what had transpired the X-Men found the dead bodies of several Purifiers as well as the shattered body of the Prism. Emma Frost scanned the mind of one of the survivors to discover that the Purafiers had been dispatched to kill all children of the town in order to make sure that they had killed the new mutant. Sinister's Marauders, including former X-Men Gambit and Sunfire stopped the Purafiers and left to locate the new mutant. It was then that the X-Men learned that the new mutant was just born rather than a teenager. This confusion is expected as mutant powers typically manifest around puberty, not from birth. The X-Men departed Alaska to plan their next move, not knowing that the geneticaly-engineered mutant hunting monstor Predator X just arrived in Cooperstown. Predator X was created to hunt and feed upon powerful mutants, and it is hungy for the new child.

    Messiah Complex: Chapter One

The 13 Chapter long story arc, Messiah Complex begins with this issue and I must say, it does a good job of keeping me excited for the next issue.

The hope that their may be a resurrection of mutants, is actually a disappointment to me rather than an excitement though. If anyone finds the child, I hope it won't be the X-Men. I don't want there to be more mutants, there's too many already.

Personally I hope either the Purifiers kill the baby or at the very least the Marauders take it and raise it as their own child/prodigy, but we all know that 'aint going to happen.

    Messiah Complex: Chapter One

X-Men: Messiah CompleX #1 is the first chapter in the biggest X-Men crossover of the decade, and as such it's an impressive start. A new mutant has been born despite the Scarlett Witch's decree of "no more mutants". Is this child a new hope, or a sign of the apocalypse? The X-Men must find out, but they can't even reach the child before their enemies do. Messiah CompleX has "classic X-Men" written all over it. Marvel is touting this as an ideal jumping-on point for new readers to the X-universe, and it is. If you're not at least relatively familiar with recent X-Men continuity then you might want to check out Wikipedia (or ComicVine) for a briefing on characters such as Predator X, the Purifiers, and the Marauders, but there is also a primer on these characters in the back pages of the one-shot along with some gorgeous artwork from the likes of Simone Bianchi (among others).

There are also plenty of A-list X-characters to be found in the story itself, and Marc Silvestri's art is as strong as I have ever seen it. Writer Ed Brubaker also does an excellent job at setting the right tone for the impending crossover, which is really what this first issue is all about. Brubaker doesn't spend much time on character nuance, but he succeeds handily in building the scope around the single biggest event to rock the X-Men's world since M-Day.

A New Hope or the Beginning of the End

    Messiah Complex: Chapter One

It has been over 10 years since the last real major shake up in the X-Universe but Messiah CompleX changes all that. Brubaker and Silvestri work together to weave a story that will grip you from the moment it starts to the end.

After House of M and M-Day, mutants are nearly extinct. However a new baby is born which starts an all out race for it. However will the newborn be mutantkinds savior or the archetect of its destruction.

In the first chapter we are taken on a trip through a city in Alaska that has been decimated from either the birth of the baby or the battle between the Marauders and Purifiers. As five X-men((Cyclops, Emma Frost, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Angel)) make their way through the rubble the find a survivor and with Emma's powers are able to piece together what happened. In a hospital three babies were born, but only two were left.

Now the question is who got the baby and what is Predator X looking for, other than a meal.

Although it just started, the teams are starting to form and a storm is coming that will shake the fabric of not only the X-teams, but their enemies as well.

One will save them. One will betray them and before it is over an X-Man will die. Alonzo and Lowe have confirmed that you will be in for a major shock by the time it is over.

If you are new to the X-Titles picking up the Messiah CompleX is a good way to get started as you will be front and center for a new start. Through great art and storytelling, you have a great start for what is to be a long and exciting ride. The only problem I had with Chapter 1 is that it is very short at 24 pages while the other pieces will be 32 pages. Despite that I would pick Messiah CompleX One Shot up. Even if you aren't a fan of the X-Books, you won't be disappointed.

    Messiah Complex: Chapter One

Where can i begin! This story just starts out with a blast of action! As the x-men are on the hunt for the baby born right after the house of M saga---- and yeah it's much more dramatic than it sounds... The Marauders are looking for this baby--- even the Purifiers! all i have to say is tha this baby is baby is VERY powerful! and the baby could not be FOUND!

This storyline sounded kinda corny when i heard about it-- but after reading it--- wow what can i say i am liking it! and totally awesome art and extra art at the end--- who can whine? A LOT OF ACTION, no boring spots, good art.............. Yummy ;)
