Empire, Part Three: Hour of the Witch

With the third issue of The Darkness, we're starting to see how and why Jackie ended up in Sierra Munoz. We also see the first meeting with Jackie and Dr. Kirchner and where the idea for the synthetic drug came from. Can he be trusted? What's up with Elle?

As for the action part, you might wonder how the Darkness will do against an army strikeforce. With explosions all around, can the Darkness stand a chance? What do you think. Since Jackie is being attacked, he gets to go all out on his opposition.

Hester and Broussard deliver another issue on the same level as they've done so far. The consistency is a good thing. Even though the extreme action is fast-paced, the back-and-forth flashbacks to Jackie and Kirchner's time together help to keep you on the edge of your seat. Part of you will want to go back to the action to see what happens next. At the same time you want to stay in the past to see the details between the Jackie and Kirchner.

A part of me misses Jackie in his old surroundings yet I'm liking his time in Sierra Munoz. I'm hoping that the attack and other events in this issue may not be leading to the end of his stay there. I think there's a lot of things that could be explored having Jackie in such a different environment.

This issue does a good job with a cliffhanger ending. You'll be on the edge of your seat waiting for issue #4. Poor Jackie...
