Career
Phillip Brooks is best known by his professional wrestling moniker, CM Punk (the CM is an acronym for "Chick Magnet"). He began wrestling in a backyard federation that he started in the late 1990s, known as Lunatic Federation Wrestling. He received formal wrestling training at the Chicago-based Steel Dominion, from Danny Dominion, Kevin Quinn, and his long-time friend, Ace Steel. He has performed for many different promotions, including Ring of Honor, the WWE and its ECW brand, and TNA (now known as Impact Wrestling).
In 2014, CM Punk took a leave from professional wrestling, during which he co-wrote Drax with Cullen Bunn, as well as a story for a Thor Annual, for DC/Vertigo's Strange Sports, and more. He also appeared as an actor and had a brief stint in the UFC. CM Punk returned to wrestling, signing for All Elite Wrestling (AEW), for whom he currently works.
He is currently married to April Mendez, who formerly wrestled in the WWE as AJ Lee.
Involvement With Comics
Brooks' involvement in comics began with writing the introduction for the 2012 hardcover edition of Avengers vs. X-Men. He was later interviewed about how he felt about being able to write the introduction, which was then put on Marvel's website.
Brooks has the Thing's catchphrase "It's Clobberin' Time!" in his entrances as CM Punk in both the WWE and AEW.
Brooks has a tattoo of Cobra Commander's logo on his right shoulder.
CM Punk was also listed as Marvel's "Fightin' Fanboy" at one time.
CM Punk has revealed in a podcast that he prefers to be addressed as CM Punk. He will be writing under the name of "CM Punk", not his real name.
