who was the guy who started the civil war, i know the story ark is long past but im curious as to who started it, i thought it was nick fury, but i want to know your oppinon comic vine.

Nick Fury had nothing to do with Civil War....Civil War was a result of the Super Human Registration Act going into effect....which was a result of the Stamford Incident in which the Nitro, while fighting the New Warriors, detonated and destroyed the town killing some 600 people while the fight was being recorded for the New Warriors' reality television show....Tony Stark felt that the super human community needed to be regulated and trained and that they also needed to reveal their secret identities to the government....Captain America felt that this imposed on their rights...so the Super Human community was split down the middle...some taking Captain America's side while some took Iron Man's side...this resulted in the heroes fighting with Captain America being deemed outlaws by the government and thus the Civil War.......Nick Fury was in hiding the entire time

Hmm,  technically  the New warriors and Nitro started it, With the explotion and all, that is what made the superhuman registration act become such a huge one, when before that Tony Stark was always fighting the bill. But after the explotion, it was Captain America who went awol first and Iron man told the president that he can stop Captain America. Everyone who Joined caps side were deemed outlaws. By technicality, Nitro started it. But aside from him, Cap started it.

well no one relley it was people getting tired of all the damage till they were near breaking point and then nitro blew up and took about 600 lifes or so normal people had enough the law was enforced and the war started there 

The start of Civil War goes back to a story arc in the late 80s actually when the concept of Superhuman Registration actually came up and at the time all the major supporters of the SHRA were against it. (ie Reed Richards and Tony Stark) But as stated above what pushed the public onto the SHRA side of the argument was the constant threat that not only super heroes, but the super villains, possessed which culminated in the Stamford incident.

I like the way Ultimate Alliance 2 stated it. The whole Stamford incident was more of a final straw. Sure, you could say that it helped start the Civil War, but I think the talk of registration was always there.

Wasn't there a conspiracy to do with the corporate heads who ran Damage Control.  Something to do with them being responsible for Nitro & the other male-assed villains being holed up in Stamford, and waiting for something terrible to happen...?  I think that was explored in the Wolverine issues.
 

I blame Coldheart, the ruthless criminal that spotted the Warriors and thus started the fight which resulted in the explosion.
 
Except Coldheart was a government agent who only fought Spider-Man once because her son hand been killed in the crossfire of one of his fights with the Hobgoblin, thus making it completely illogical for her to associating with known criminals. Freakin' Millar...
