Living up to the Hype
Just finished the first issue of Civil War on Marvels Digital comics unlimited on the web.WOW would be an understatement ! I'm not usually a big fan of a group of heroes working together ,but here I finally decided to read what all the fuss was about. The issue starts off crazy. Disaster in Stamford Connecticut , caused by Nitro by a school kills hundreds. All for the sake of a tv reality show based on skirmishes between good and bad super folk. Namely the New Warriors and the recently escaped from Rykers Island. The Artwork is Amazing! There is real drama to build the division between the heroes . There are questions of the heroes intentions and the reality of the ends justifies the means when it comes to civilian safety in apprehending super powered criminals. As the heroes gather together to debate their situation, has America put up with them long enough or is it just paranoia? There are a lot of good points on display here. That friction between the heroes and their usual human allies is real. This brings up the notion of the heroes registering and surrendering the secret identities to the American government .In effect the heroes will become Federal employees. DareDevil sums it up best,"that this moment was long in the coming. Stamford was the straw that broke the camels back. It's the end of the way we do business. You can smell it in the air." America is serious and Iron Man stands with the government while on the other side stands Captain America. Knowing they need Cap on their side they try to talk him over ,but Cap feels strongly that the arresting of heroes will split them down the middle causing a war among heroes and that the politics their playing with wil one day let Washington determine to heroes who the villains are. S.H.I.E.LD. causes the very division he was talking about when they try to apprehend him first. This leads to the first conflict. His escape from the Helicarrier is amazing. There are so many great moments in this issue . I am definitely looking forward to next issue. it definitely lived up to the hype
