    Major Story Arcs

Chris Larmouth grew up wanting to be a super-hero. He works out and drinks horrible protein shakes in order to get as close as he can to his heroes. He even took a job as the Defenders' pilot in the hopes that maybe someday something might happen, and enjoys his job.

Then one day he eats some alfalfa sprouts that he had grown, which were infected by some gamma spores that came from Ephraim Soles. Larmouth's body starts growing muscles for a brief moment, and he thinks he is finally becoming a super-hero--until he erupts in plant tentacles and writhes in pain.

Beast and Iceman see him, and Iceman puts him in a cryogenic freeze so they can study and hopefully heal him. After defeating the giant plant monster that is created by the spores, they bring him up to the team's infirmary.

There they put him in a cryogenic chamber. For a long time, Beast tries to find a cure for him, but can't, and he becomes a symbol of some of Beast's failed hopes.

Eventually, the Dragon of the Moon (who is possessing Moondragon) brings Chris to a pocket dimension, where his cryogenic chamber is turned off. Beast can fight the Dragon, or help Chris. Since other Defenders stop the Dragon, Beast helps Chris re-freeze. Then, when the Dragon is defeated, Moondragon uses her power to fully heal Chris (and some others) before she is turned to ash.
