     [1ST ISSUE]
Biased as i am with the Chip 'N' Dale series as i grew up with it i am coming into this comic expecting the same as the show. as we have seen Darkwing Duck lead BOOM! studios as the glory hound of their company, with 3 titles now out with Stan Lee's seal of approval. At first as i begin to write this review in word document while singing the theme song to the series and getting blank stares, but now we move on... to the past...kind of...

    The Story

Makes McGyver looks like a science fair.
Makes McGyver looks like a science fair.
Those previous episodes where i talk about the Darkwing Duck TPB, I go on about how BOOM! Studios takes on the daunting task about how to bring back old childhood favorites and make them new again but in essence keep them the same for adults as well who grew up with the cartoon or comic series. this book has been no exception. i came in with high expectations and Ian Brills writing met all of them. if anything the crew there made them team that much more dynamic in the way they work together.

The team looks and acts like a detective agency with a splash of tomb raiders. each character having their own dynamics in the group. Chip; the super sleuth who is always serious and always first to try to be the hero. Dale; The lovable goof-ball who feels that humor can help lighten the tension. Gadget; The genius inventor mouse who just sticks to the facts and understands more about inventing then people. Monterey Jack; Ex pirate who sailed the world and turned over a new leaf to help others, strong and hardheaded, and has a strong weakness for cheese. Zipper; The strong and very brave fly of the group he is young and always puts the safety of others before his own well being.

The overall story seems to focus on parts of Gadgets father and the group of rescuers that he worked for, and Monty is the only one who knows anything about the past that pertains to the current crisis around the world. So from what is gathered in this first issue it will work much similar to Darkwing's first story arch but it has much more action than darkwing which gives it a whole new feel.

I have to give the story so far a 4 out of 5. its a good story that has a good balance of action, though we get the basics of what the story is about it plays well at keeping the reader going. with the ending to leave more action for the next issue. it will be great if they can keep up this flow through out the next 3 issues.

Now i did not see the artist when i first read this as i just assumed it was the same team that worked on Darkwing series. but i was shocked when i read Leonel Castellani's name on the cover as well as artist. in a way it was shock but in another way i was in awe of how well he worked on the characters and made them look almost exactly like in the series. For those not familiar with Castellani's work his main work includes the Super-Hero Squad from marvel.

The designs of the world with in this, just reminds me time and again that they are chipmunks, mice and a fly. because they work designed so well that i forget it until i see a steering wheel made of a bottle cap or a table made of tree bark. and one thing i liked about the series which they kept was Dales Hawaiian shirt with the exact same prints on it.  the attention to detail to characters and world is amazing but at the same time very much "toony" and colorful to pull in the younger readers.

The actions go well with the story in this. especially with the story arch that involves crazed animals, where we can see who and what would become crazy just based on the colors given to specific characters. the colors are very bright in this comic as in my own opinion it should be. but can be a detour-ant for most of the dark readers out there.

Overall i give the art a 4.5 out of 5. it was very well done. the colors are bright and very "toony", which plays well into the series. though it may not be for dark readers it is a good set up generally. the action flows well with the story which makes the book very engaging. and when it flows well the read will like it more.

    Overall Thoughts

Story and Characters: The overall story arch is going well so far. though mostly action they are giving us more background on the characters as the story progresses though this first issue was partly on Gadget and Monty. im sure chip and dale will have their chance in the future.

Colors: this would be the main issue in the comic as the colors are VERY bright. which is similar to Marvels Super Hero Squad comics. this is mainly meant for kids and would hope that the kids would find the bright colors as well as the action in the comic entertaining.

Overall: i found this comic overall coming in at a 4.3 out of 5. it was a great issue. i would love to see this story arch on the characters background but we have 3 more issues coming. this comic is definately for fans of the series, but for those fans who have grown and have kids this would be a good series to get them started on to almost give them a piece of your past.

Series Prediction: since this is a first issue in the series i am going to make a prediction on it with how it might play out and how i think i want it to play out. This series is starting off fast and into the action. we do not waste any time what so ever. this is good as this engages the reader to find out who these characters are and what they are like in the thick of things. with the way boom has been writing they take the simplest of comic book stories and just apply it here. like the old saying if it ain't broke why fix it.

In the end i want this series to do well, in fact very well with a trend of retro cartoons being made again for a new audience and cashing in on the older audience its no wonder that titles such as Darkwing duck and Chip 'N' Dales rescue rangers are doing so well. it is my hope that writers like Ian Brill will firmly plant good stories that work on character dynamics but not make them too too serious as these are made for kids. But from what we seen from BOOM! when it comes to these revamped kids titles we probably will not see Ian Brill stepping down anytime soon.
