Johns gave her some stupid tragic origin, which is in line with what he did with A LOT of Green Lantern characters.

Tragic? Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but she had multiple false identities that she created so she could con people. She was a villain before she ever met WW, became Cheetah and in fact was conning WW. She likes being Cheetah. I don't see the tragic.

@dernman: the whole, "she was CURSED by the dagger to be cheetah". barbara minerva actively sought out the powers of the cheetah, it wasn't happenstance

@jointron33: The she's cursed by the dagger was part of the con on WW. What Diana thought was true wasn't. Cheetah was playing her from the beginning. Cheetah had several identities and the one Diana knew was just another fake.

I like the New 52 origin. It doesn't give her a pathetic excuse to be evil (like being publicly upstaged by WW at one event, or just wanting her lasso) and it establishes a history with her and Diana (something every good arch-nemesis needs)
