    Cheetah (Minerva)

    Character » Cheetah (Minerva) appears in 818 issues.

    Barbara Ann Minerva was an archaeologist who used an ancient ritual to turn herself into the avatar of Urzkartaga, but because she didn't meet the requirement of virginity, she was cursed by the god to suffer from an unending hunger for human flesh.

    Embarrassing Cheetah moments.

    Ok, I actually like Cheetah, since the first time I saw her was in the Rise of the Olympian trade, where she had a good fight with Wonder Woman, and was a pretty good schemer/scientist and whatnot. Then when I worked backwards and got to her next appearance before that in "Who is Wonder Woman" (which overall I thaught was just pretty Bleh regardless), I noticed Cheetah was one-shotted by Batman at the end, so it was easier for me to imagine everyone elses feelings about the character. But I know that can't be all there is too it, so I made this thread so people could compile all the embarrassing moments that have given Cheetah the reputation she has today.

    I did just learn she was on that old Super Friends show, where instead of being a speedster with claws, she was just a chick in some cat pajamas and a speech impediment. So that makes sense. That show is apparently where Aquaman got his reputation too.

    @CylonDorado:
    If you see in the Pre-Crisis Wonder Woman comics, you will see that Cheetah was like in the Super Friends. Post-Crisis they decided to upgrade her into a magical cheetah/human hybrid.

    The Superfriends Cheetah (aka the original Golden Age Cheetah from the comics -- Priscilla Rich) wasn't just a chick in a cheetah costume.  She was actually really crafty and in one episode, was able to go back in time and outsmart Diana before she became Wonder Woman, allowing her to become the actual Wonder Woman.  I think the biggest problem is that fans just disregard Cheetah based on appearance alone, but she's actually had plenty of cool moments.  The Priscilla Rich version of Cheetah had a great modernization in Alex Ross's Justice series, also.

    The most embarrassing moment, in my opinion, besides the one where she got punched out by Batman, was in a Catwoman issue where Catwoman and Batman defeated her and handcuffed her to a lamp post.  First off, Cheetah is physically strong enough to hold her own against Wonder Woman or Superman, and almost as fast as the Flash.  She should be schooling Catwoman and Batman like there's no tomorrow.  But then again, you also have Batman defeating Darkseid which is just ridiculous.

    Beyond the times she was beaten by Batman, I can't think of many embarrassing moments for her.  I don't know why fans think she's not worthy of being Wonder Woman's arch-nemesis as she has proven herself time and again (and has a long history from the Golden and Silver Ages).

    @Daffodil:    I agree that it makes VERY little sense for Cheetah to be taken out by Batman or Catwoman given that she's physically strong enough to fight Wonder Woman one on one and is in fact a speedster like Flash....I mean, how can the big whigs in DC except people to respect Cheetah as Wondie's archnemesis when they show her getting pwned by people who shouldn't even be able to touch her let alone harm her.

    Cheetah needs more epic moments so people will give her the respect she deserves, have her concoct some new scheme that puts Wonder Woman and the world in big time peril, like Joker or Lex would do for Bats and Supes.

    Yeah, she's definitely capable of having an epic scale plan. I mean, she helped create a monster that beat down Firestorm, Red Tornado and a John Stewart at the same time.

    @Jake Fury: The thing thing is that she was originally about to die in that episode but was saved by an animation error.

    @Jake Fury: One of the producers I think said it. After she was dragged by Solomon Grundy when they thought that she betrayed them, she was originally about to die then. But at the end of the episode she was seen with the rest of the villains.

    @Ororo19: Was it really batman that hit her or was it catwoman? Because the fist and wrist seems more slightly and there are no spines on the gloves. Also batman was waaaaay up there, much too far. And plus i hope it's catwoman instead.

    @Bopper Girl: Nope it was Batman who hit her (does that mean Bats can one-hit Wondy too), Catwoman was behind Cheetah.
