As the Chaos King adds Death to his list of victims, Hercules and Amadeus Cho assemble an unorthodox "god squad" whose ranks include Venus, Sersi, Galactus and the Silver Surfer.
 

The Good

Before anything, I need to say that the reveal of the Chaos King's true face had to be one of the most unnerving splahes I've seen lately. Kudos to Pham and Gho for achieving a style that's versatile enough to render such horrors as impressively as the wonders throughout the book. I got a real kick out of experiencing the vexing crisscross of natural laws and cosmic rules from Herc & Amadeus' oft-perplexed perspective. And Herc backhanding the Surfer was a stitch!

The Bad

I'm generally not a fan of integrating CG models and comics art, so I wasn't really feeling the cover - - especially when putting it in comparison to the gorgeous, seemingly-water-colored artwork in the book itself. Instead of drawing you into this epic storyline, it just makes me think about the rendering limitations of the program it was composed in.

The Verdict - 4/5

The MU's "godly" side has usually disinterested, so I'm quite pleased by how infinitely engaging I find this quirky intersection of mythologies, both historical and Marvel-based, to be. Between this, Shadowland and Curse of the Mutants, Marvel's offering you manageable crossovers to suit your specific tastes. If you're a fan of the inventive with equal servings of terror and tounge-in-cheek, I recommend enlisting in the Chaos War.
