ORIGIN
The Champions, also referred as the League of Champions, is a group of costumed men and women , with police powers recognized by the legal authorities, who act principally to safeguard the world against various threats beyond the scope of normal law-enforcement. The members, most of whom possess super-human abilities, do not share a common origin: membership in the team, not their beginnings, is what they have in common.
They are also not the first such super team on their world; they were preceded by the legendary Vanguard of Freedom, who battled both before and during the years of the World War II. Although the present team did not spring directly from the earlier one, there are direct connections between the two. While there was a period of time with relative inactivity following the war years, broken most notably by Captain Thunder's brief career in the 1970's, a second era of costumed heroes has begun. The Champions headquarters in a semi-secret base beneath San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, are its most visible by-product.
