Sim's Witty Skewering of Red Sonja

    Dave Sim parodies Red Sonja

By the late 1970s, Red Sonja had become so popular in the pages of Conan the Barbarian, that Marvel gave her her own title in 1977. It's no secret, however, that other fantasy comics writers like Wendy and Richard Pini, and Dave Sim found Sonja to be a troubling character when it comes to comics and gender politics, so it was probably only a matter of time before Sim parodied Red Sonja in the pages of Cerebus.

Sim continues to refine both his artwork and his storytelling. Cerebus' snout is shrinking from toward the size it will be in the popular "fixed" form of the character, and this is probably the wittiest Sim has been so far. This still represents a cruder, earlier incarnation of the Earth Pig's chronicles, but it's fast evolving to what it will become.
