Cassandra Cain
Character » Cassandra Cain appears in 879 issues.
The daughter of two notorious assassins, David Cain and Lady Shiva, Cassandra left her father as a child after she killed a man and saw his pain and fear while he died. After saving Commissioner Gordon's life, she became the new Batgirl with Batman and Oracle's blessing, and was later adopted by Bruce Wayne. She would later give the role of Batgirl to her friend Stephanie Brown, and became Black Bat. In the New 52 and Rebirth, she takes the alias of Orphan.
Could Cassandra Cain Be Getting An Ongoing?
Rumors are sort of a common thing in the comics industry, so I was not really surprised when I first heard the rumor from a not so reliable source that Cassandra Cain may be getting her very own series thanks to creator Billy Tucci ( SHI). Now, being that I am a HUGE Cassie Cain fan, and she seems to have fallen off the face of the DC Universe following her final appearance in Batgirl #1, I'm not really holding my breath.
The last time we saw Cassie, she dropped the cape and cowl and left it to Stephanie, who put it on without a moment of hesitation. However, Cassie's whereabouts have been missing from the dialogue of the DCU, and no one has really addressed her whereabouts. In fact, up until recently, in the first issue of Birds of Prey, Cassie had not even been mentioned. In that final scene in BOP #1, the relaunch by Gail Simone, Black Canary questions the identity of the White Canary, and whether she is Cassandra Cain. If you ask me, I really don't think so. It makes no sense to have Black Canary and Cassandra Cain go head to head, particularly based on the way Cassie retired from the post of Batgirl. So, where is she? Is she the White Canary? The final appearance of Cass that I can think of came in the most recent issue of Red Robin #13, where you see the name "Cassandra- Hong Kong?" appear on Tim Drake's computer screen. So, where exactly is Cass, and when will we see her return? Do you think DC might really be giving Cass her own ongoing written by Tucci, and if so will she have a fanbase to support the book?
i hope they hold out on bringing her back until after the return of bruce wayne stuff is over.
i seriously want Bruce Wayne to get his own detective style book when he comes back and i think they should make Cassandra Cain his assistant / bodyguard. kind of green hornet and kato-ish.
She deserves getting her own ongoing. Although connecting her to White Canary seems too obvious, almost too easy to do.
Hell yes, I would buy a Cassandra Cain ongoing! I like Stephanie as Batgirl, but Cassandra Cain took Batgirl to a new level.
Until....some of the writers screwed her over. I'm hoping she's not White Canary cause she seems evil, and I rather not see Cain go through that again unless the story is good.
I'd buy it. I love Cassie, and while I do dig on Steph being Batgirl, I'd really like to see Cass tearing it up like she does.
Hey Babs,
Cassie isn't White Canary.

A fan had a three-part question: what is the status of the Batwoman series, Cassandra Cain as a character and where is Misfit? Sattler replied he's seen the pages of the Batwoman series but doesn't want to make any announcement until it's a sure thing with the timing. They are also holding off on using Cassandra right now.
i hope so. id definetly buy it. i have this super nice little statue of her as Batgirl. Im sur eyoud like it Babs.
If Superboy can get his own ongoing then so can Cassandra and if that's her in the picture above then she most have played to many Street Fighter gamies.
I think Fabian said in a reccent interview that he had plans for her.
I hope she gets her own ongoing se desrve it more than that Spoiler-Girl.
Interesting. Have to wait an see how this plays out. I remember seeing a quote awhile ago about how Cassandra Cain was going to play a Major role in 2010, maybe her own ongoing is what they were referring to :) Cass being White Canary doesn't really make alot of sense but you never know how things are going to unfold. I will say that there is a connection...kind of. As pointed out up above there is a panel in the latest Red Robin issue that shows a computer screen displaying "Cassandra - Hong Kong?" Now as some fans already know, Hong Kong is where Black Canary (and Lady Shiva) went during the last Birds of Prey run to pay her final respects to her dying Sensei, a Sensei who use to call her Siu Jek Jai. The same name White Canary used in issue #1 of the relaunch. However I actually think Cass wont be returning anytime soon, certainly not before Bruce Wayne, and certainly not as a villain.
I like Cass way better than the current Batgirl- but if they plan on turning her evil like Red Hood, then no I'm just not interested in an ongoing comic with Cass. DC overloaded on the Bat-family and now they are forced to turn characters to evil just to keep them in the loop.
That is just bad writing, when you make a character it is the job of the writer to make interesting stories without having to go WAAAY overboard or basically changing the character fundamentally just to keep people interested. Just my opinion.
Cass may get a 6 issue series like Jason Todd, but I doubt a solo ongoing when the likes of Black Canary or Huntress isn't.
You know those times where you really, really want to know about something? You finally hear about it and then regret your curiosity because the answer isn't too appealing? I'm kind of feeling that now.
Providing this is true, and it is an IF. Even the character name doesn't make a whole lot of sense. When there is already a Black Canary, why is there a need for a White Canary?? It makes her a cheap copy. She deserves better. She deserves her own original secret identity name. It's as if they weren't even trying.
It doesn't make any sense why she would spend so much time fighting for the good guys as Batgirl for Bruce's dream, abandon the cowl she had, and suddenly start fighting again but for the bad guy's side. Isn't that mocking Bruce's dream to do the opposite of what he would want? Why kill someone?
Perhaps this is all just a feint and a way to get readers talking about the book. Though, it's one that is kind of rubbing me in several directions and all of them in a bad way.
It feels sort of similar to being given ice cream and you are lactose intolerant. It's nice to get a gift, but eating it makes you feel uncomfortable. Here is hoping this is just a rumor and a feint of the writers.
I've never read any story with Cassandra Cain, so my opinion is relatively pointless, but the fact that here at Comic Vine there are a lot of Cain fans/followers I think it would be an interesting read if the rumors are true.
I didnt read Batgirl #1 so I had no idea what happened to Cassie Cain. She is to good a character to let just fall through the cracks. I'll be happy to see her resurface. I'd rather see her as a supporting character in Red Robin or Birds Of Prey. I just cant afford another title.
soooo many possibilities!
Personally I really hope it is NOT Cassie, the White Canary is such a brilliant character, I want simply a new bad guy for the BOP
I'm excited to see who this White Canary is
but I dont' think it's Cassandra
I hope she comes back soon
I'd love to see her have to team up with Stephanie again
they're both very cool characters and two VERY different Batgirls
I've never really read many books with her in but from what I've read up on her I really like the sound of her character. I'd prefer to see her with the Bat title more than Stephanie Brown, Stephanie just comes off like a saved by the bell version of a bat character.
I would more than likely buy a book with her as the title character, I think giving her to Christopher Yost would be interesting as I've enjoyed his Red Robin run, he's definitely got a handle on the Bat family and his work on x-23 shows he's good with female characters.
" I wanna see her meet Jason Todd "Nice. I'd like to see that meeting as well.
I was thinking that Cassandra was White Canary. After all, her eyes are green, just like Cassandra's.
yeah,I don't think it's her either
it'd be cool if it was, but I think she'll show up and put the mystery rest......hopefully by kicking White Canary's ass
i read on i think wikipedia that the batgirl series started but was disbanded due to not enough fanbase but hey, it could be faulty info
Well, we know White Canary isn't Cassandra afterall, but I do hope that Cassandra returns once Bruce gets back to Gotham and that she retakes the mantle of Batgirl from Stephanie Brown (she's a way better Batgirl than Blondie). If not, I hope she at least gets her own cool new mantle and costume like Dick Grayson did when he became Nightwing.
