Carol Ferris
Carol Ferris is a comic book character that first appeared in Showcase #22The love of Green Lantern Hal Jordan's life who currently has retaken her mantle as a Star Sapphire.
History
Daughter of Carl Ferris, owner of Ferris Aerospace, Carol grew up a spoiled brat in the lap of luxury. Her first taste of terror was when she witnessed the tragic death of Martin Jordan when his Ferris-owned plane went crashing to the ground. Jordan's son, Hal, was next to her when it happened. Little did she know that this boy would become a very important part of her life.Even before her father's retirement, Carol always played an important role in Ferris's management. This became a problem when young pilot Hal Jordan would pull dangerous stunts in his test jet to get her attention. She hated when he did that, mostly because it actually got her attention. They indulged in an unprofessional romantic relationship for a while. Although the two would rarely stay together for more than a year at a time, as they got into many fights over Hal's inability to commit to the relationship.
Another complication in their romance was the meddling of the aliens known as the Zamarons, who persisted in possessing Carol with their own source of power, the Star Sapphire, forcing her to do battle with Hal as the Green Lantern. Hal would free her time and time again. However, they were split up when Hal went off the radar, presumably for good, when he sacrificed his life to re-ignite the sun after being possessed by Parallax. During his absence, Carol married another man in an attempt to move on.Blackest Night
Hal Jordan, of course, refused to stay out of her life, dead or not. When Hal returned to life and sought her out, the two chose not to interrupt her marriage. However, while Hal was a Prisoner of War in a terrorist camp for four months, Carol got a divorce. Although, upon Hal's return, she conveniently "forgot" to mention it and instead preferred to toy with him for a bit. Recently, she has again been given the power of the Star Sapphire in order to assist the Corps in preparing for the Blackest Night prophecy. Carol arrives on Zamoron just in time to face off against the invading Sinestro Corps members who had come to reclaim their captured female comrades. She also single-handedly faces off against Sinestro himself even though he attempts to avoid a confrontation with her, claiming that this is not her war. It was also noted that, unlike the other Star Sapphire's, Carol continues to resist her rings influence and acts of her own accord, since she has apparently built up a resistance due to her previous encounters with the violet power. During this time, Queen Aga'po notes that Carol may be the perfect Sapphire to finally tame the Sentient embodiment of love, the Predator. Carol's battle with Sinestro is ultimately cut short when the two Lanterns are confronted by the Black Lantern Amon Sur.
She battles Amon Sur and in that battle the Zameron battery is destroyed. Carol also tells Hal who helps her that she is in control and not the sapphire. She later helps Hal Jordan,Sinestro, and Indigo-1 battle Black Lanterns Abin and Arin Sur.Status
