Totally okay with the name change, but the costume itself...its kinda like the new Power Girl costume. Lot less sexy, lot less iconic, lot harder to pick her out of a crowd. It just looks like something generic you'd make in one of the superhero MMO character creators. Like with default setting or something.

He old costume? Nothing else like it, it is ridiculously iconic by this point. One of the only Marvel heroes to wear a domino mask, and the iconic lightning bolt across her torso with the red sash.

I liked the bathing suit. :( She looks like she belongs in the golden age now.

I like it, it fits the captain title. Having said that, I do not like the hair

... What up with the feathered faux hawk mullet abomination hair do that keeps appearing off and on with her? WHO thought that was a good idea? And why has no one punched them in the face, groin, or (insert polite word for female equivalent of groin here) yet?

As for her costume, I don't much care for it. I liked her old suit. Sure, it was essentially a bathing suit with thigh highs, but that was fine. That was her look. And while some outfits may look pretty good on either gender, like Spider-Man's, Captain Marvel's... kind of doesn't. At least not for Ms. Marvel. If some other female superhero, like Jessica Jones, (I'm not suggesting she'd make a good Captain Marvel, I'm merely using her as an example) took over the Captain Marvel name and costume, that might be fine, since we'd have no real prior point for comparison. But with Ms. Marvel, her looks pretty iconic. And awesome. Plus, without her substantial efforts to halt it, thigh highs will go extinct. The horror.

True, she looks more like Power Girl then Power Girl does right now :(

I like Captain Marvel's current costume, the mask that she sometimes wears is awful but the rest has grown on me

@guttridgeb: Thank you :)

Im not sure how I feel about it yet..

I'm looking forward to the name AND costume being put to an end. And with issues 2 and 3 both dropping below 30,000, it shouldn't be too long. Marvel should take a look at the huge sales that Ms. Marvel brought in (with her proper name and costume) when her title started and realize that THAT is what her fans wanted. This whole attempt to re-envision her character was completely unnecessary.

#14 Posted by Crash_Recovery (850 posts) - - Show Bio

Amen, sir. That hair is pretty rough. Additionally, being a scrapper of a character, long hair is a big liability.

Her old costume is not as iconic as this new one. Marvel really did a good job with her costume.

There is potential for fan service , its not like they reduced her physique like New52 did to PG

I think this costume is very cool. People just dont like it because they cant see he legs anymore. Just like Power Girl. People dont like her new costume becuse they cant see her cleavage anymore.

I like the new costume (didn't at first, but it really grew on me), and I'm okay with the name change (I think it's better than Ms. Marvel, which if you ask me sounds a bit too submissive, but I'd prefer a unique moniker over either).

As for the series itself, it is pretty average, that I do agree with. The first issue was rather dull, the second was okay, and the third, while an improvement over the first two (I thought), still isn't that spectacular. I feel like a big issue with it is that they're focusing too much on the fact that Carol is a woman over the fact that she's a hero. I don't see Amazing Spider-Man focusing on the fact that Peter is a man, for instance, or Hawkeye with Clint.

Those, along with her going by "Captain Marvel" instead of Ms. Marvel, are the only things I don't like with what Marvel's doing with the character.

But aside from those things, I love the new costume and with time I think with time it could become just as iconic as her previous one.

Ihate it with and without the mask.

I'm happy to see female heroes move beyond the bathing suit as uniform look.

I like the new costume, I think it's cool. The hair I'm undecided on right now. But over all I think the comic is good.

#26 Posted by Matchstick (565 posts) - - Show Bio

The new costumes not bad, it'll grow on people if they keep it around. Though I do miss sexiness of the old one.

#27 Posted by Strider92 (16284 posts) - - Show Bio

The whole look is completely dependent on the artist. Some people can rock the look (Dodson for example) and some people can't. There's nothing wrong with the design just who's behind the pencil.

#28 Posted by mimic12 (548 posts) - - Show Bio

My thought. keep the costume and add the mask or a different one. oh and make her hair long again.

That was Carol's original costume, and even that would have been greatly preferred to what she's wearing now. At least the current sales trend is a good sign:

Ms. Marvel #3 (2006) - 54th - 43,031 estimated sales.

Captain Marvel #3 (2012) - 89th - 27,649 estimated sales.

Issues 1 and 2 were similarly disparate. Hopefully Marvel eventually recognizes that Ms. Marvel in her iconic black and gold costume was what the majority of Carol's fans wanted.

#31 Posted by Scorby (1 posts) - - Show Bio

Actually, this new costume of hers looks like something you'd see a guy pumping gas at an old Texaco station wearing. All she needs is one of those little hats. Come to think of it, if the hat hid that horrible hair-do it might be worth the addition. Good to see sales are floundering, maybe Marvel will understand lack of cash as well as all the yes-men they must have trying to sell her new look to their management.

See, that's what I love so much about it. It looks instantly classic; the costume she should have always worn. The black Warbird outfit with the lightning bolt was bold and powerful as a female costume, but this one looks more like an iconic superhero outfit. I see the teaser for A+X and am awed by Captain Marvel's inclusion rather than, "another chick in a bathing suit".

You do realise that the average sales for the series won't make Marvel think, "Dang! We shouldn't have changed her costume!" They'll think, "Dang! We shouldn't have given a female character a solo book! Ah well, back into the cannon fodder team roster she goes."

This is how Carol should dress and look when fighting evil:

X-Men Legacy 269 Mark Brooks
Ms. Marvel
Art by the Silva Brothers

She should not wear her original costume or her newest one. This one is far superior.

#36 Posted by DJ1107 (244 posts) - - Show Bio

I like the costume It's like a inverse of Mar-Vell's costume. The only thing I never dug was the mohawk.

#37 Posted by Crimsonlord53 (1318 posts) - - Show Bio

There's one to many colors and the geometrics are hard on the eyes. It would look better in air force blue and a low viz lighting bolt imo.

#38 Posted by _Black (2302 posts) - - Show Bio

I like both costumes. Probably like the new one more though. I just don't like the haircut, Carol needs long hair.

#39 Posted by PhoenixoftheTides (3531 posts) - - Show Bio

I prefer the new one more. I don't really think long hair is necessary for an action focused heroine, and the new design reminds me of The Rocketeer's imagery and aviation as a field at the same time, which work for her character. Even the shorter hair works for her, as most military women cut their hair to barely chin length. She looks more serious now and less like another random superheroine, to be honest.

#40 Posted by HopesummersFORtheFUTURE (2852 posts) - - Show Bio

lol her hair is to short

#42 Posted by Onemoreposter (4022 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah. I don't know whats going on. Suddenly Marvel and DC want to be modest. They need to bring the sexy back.

PG;s got the right idea

@mimic12:

I don't care about the skin showing, I care that its no longer a Ms Marvel costume.

She went from being a knockoff of Captain Marvel to being her own unique and interesting hero with a completely unique costume....to now being a knockoff of Captain Marvel again, with an even LESS unique costume than her ORIGINAL one, whch is just sad.

#44 Posted by venomyak (1443 posts) - - Show Bio

I kinda like the old costume it looks like a classic superhero costume. Female superheroes have traditionally dressed like old time circus acrobats with a leotard deal boots and gloves. Just like male superheroes have traditionally dressed like old time circus strongmen with tights and underwear on the outside.

#45 Posted by TheCrowbar (4286 posts) - - Show Bio

Only comicbook fans would complain about a woman in full spandex and claim "comic tradition" but not bat an eye at all the iconic male heroes in body armor now.

I like the new costume, and she looks good. But I may be bias since the old one was never really big on me. II. I swear it's like Comic fans can never accept change they want everything to remain the same. Same costume same story Same name Same... boring (+)
