Carnage
Character » Carnage appears in 714 issues.
Carnage is the offspring of the alien symbiote Venom. It bonded with the crazed serial killer, Cletus Kasady, thus creating one of Spider-Man's most murderous, brutal, and lethal adversaries.
why is carnage red and not black?
" That's the way they drew him... The colours of costumes / skin are usually dependant on that character's theme, with Carnage you have the symbolism of blood, it's also a primary colour which is generally more attractive. "The symbiote is bonded to Cletus Kasady's blood. He is the first symbiotic mutant due to exposure to Earth's atmosphere at birth. The red is Kasady's blood, the black lines that flow inbetween is the regular symbiote. The symbiote itself is not red.

this.
The true fact on why Carnage is red and black is that the symbiote bonded to his blood unlike Venom which bonded to Eddie's nervous system. This is a fact long forgotten after they made Toxin. The red is actually Cletus Kasady's blood.

huh, i always thought it went more along the lines of how symbiotes are shape shifters and if they stay in one form long enough then they stay that way, hence the big white spider symbol on venom's chest.
so i just figured Kasady subconsciously wanted to be something red and scary so the symbiote obliged.
and with toxin i figured patric mulligan didn't want to be anything in particular so the new symbiote relied purely on its genes for its form.
and then with the life foundation symbiotes the hosts had known about it beforehand and pondered what they would like to look like with a symbiote so they got to be their favorite colors like green or purple.
personally i think my explanation is better because it includes the other symbiotes, but yea they already explained it in the comics so who cares what i think.
