Carnage
Character » Carnage appears in 714 issues.
Carnage is the offspring of the alien symbiote Venom. It bonded with the crazed serial killer, Cletus Kasady, thus creating one of Spider-Man's most murderous, brutal, and lethal adversaries.
Off My Mind: What Will The Return of Carnage Bring?
We know that during the break out at the Raft in the first New Avengers series, Sentry took Carnage into space and ripped him in half. There is some question as to whether or not Cletus was inside Carnage at the time.
From Marvel's solicits, Cletus will not be the host for Carnage as the symbiote targets Spider-Man and Iron Man. We knew it was a matter of time until Carnage returned from the dead. As much as I didn't like Carnage, I can't say I'm exactly thrilled with the idea of 'it' having a new host.

The same could be said for Venom. I've always preferred Eddie Brock as Venom, even if he went a little soft. It goes back to perhaps trying to make him a more marketable character. Someone that threatens to "eat your brains" can't really be considered a hero.
What will a new host mean for Carnage? There was apparently a rumor that the host would be female this time. We've already seen a female symbiote and the images for the covers of the first two issues don't suggest a female host.
What kind of host could we expect once the suit finally finds one? Even though I wasn't a fan of Cletus, I do feel he should remain as Carnage. The idea of Carnage was a deadly symbiote. I'd hate to see some other random "killer" get bonded with Carnage and start things up again.
The fact that Zeb Wells is writing the series gives me some hope. I would like to think that there is a nice game plan being set in motion and there's a reason that now is the time for the return of Carnage. It should be interesting to see what happens in this five issue mini series. Will we see Mac Gargan as Venom and Eddie Brock as Anti-Venom show up? Will we see a new host for Carnage? I'm really hoping this mini series changes how I feel about Carnage. I'm actually looking forward to it.
Never was a big fan of Carnage, but Carnage: Mindbomb was awesome.
If it's a female I'll be sad ='(... because... Carnage isn' t exactly a feminane name... also CLETUS IS CARNAGE! People need to learn that. He will ALWAYS be the true Carnage and should STAY Carnage
Maximum Carnage 2: The Re-Carnage-ing.
In all seriousness, Carnage was one of my favorite villains as a kid. He never had much substance, but he's just so crazy and cool-looking that's it's impossible to hate him. I'll definitely be reading his return.
" Never was a big fan of Carnage, but Carnage: Mindbomb was awesome. "What made Mindbomb so interesting was the insight into the psyche of Cletus Kasady. I'd rather see that explored further than having a new host for the symbiote but I'm keeping an open mind. I personally never had a problem with Gargan as Venom so maybe this will turn out for the better.
"I won´t pick up this series because I think it´s stupid to bring back Carnage. I´m not a fan at all. "
And that is why you fail, sir.
Well, I hope that through this series, we will see Venom jump in and kick some Carnage butt. Also some anti-venom butt. It brings a possible opportunity to the feet of Eddie Brock, I know I speak for a lot of people when I say that, True Venom fans prefer Brock as Venom. So maybe there is a chance that Mac Gargan will get kicked and Brock will become Venom again and lose the Anti-Venom suite. So it's a possibility that Hard Core Venom fans can dwell on for now. I loved Maximum Carnage growing up, it was amazing, so I will be picking this up. VENOM RULES!!!!
You'd think in Brand New Day, Marvel would just END the symbiote silliness. Venom became a joke once they went with the tongue and teeth. I thought he was waaaay creepier when he barely had any facial features. Now you have Venom II, Anti-Venom, Carnage, and some other guy...
Way to beat someone over the head.
Will we see Mac Gargan as Venom and Eddie Brock as Anti-Venom show up?
Oh I bet you we will!
Meh. That's kind of how I feel about this. To bring him back with a completely random host wouldn't make much sense unless it somehow ended back with Cletus or had some effect on Marvel IMO.
I'll probably still check it out though.
STOP GETTING CHARACTERS BACK, STOP REBORNING/RESPAWNING/RECONSTRUCTING/CLONING THEM ETC. BECAUSE THIS IS STUPID
It's not a rumor, the writer said so in an interview.

No, Gargan is really stupid. Renewing Eddie Brock and actually trying to write him well instead of using him to earn cheap 12 year old cash is anything but stupid. >_>
" I know I speak for a lot of people when I say that, True Venom fans prefer Gargan as Venom. "
WTF? The idiot lapdog who jobbers constantly? "True" Venom fans know the one and only Venom is Eddie Brock!
@G-Man:
I thought Mac Gargen went back to being scorpion or rhino or whatever.
Also i hear it will be a female host but while covered in the symbiote, will look like a male since the carnage symbiote is male. It will help throw heros off the trail of who the host is. They also say the symbiote will be different and more matured now. This is all just hear say tho

Gargan was Scorpion, and he WILL be going back (as solicits show)... he just hasn't yet.
" Carnage sucks. The only people I know that like Carnage are people who have never read comic books. "pretty Snobbish thing to say. Anyway, this would be a great opportunity to make him more new millenium character study of a psychopath.
I'm talking more methodical and covert, sort of like a runaway superhero who kills instead and has vigilantes hunting him. Basically a superhero (eg Spider-Man) story in reverse, from the eyes of the psycho-killer.
Kasady shouldn't be 1-dimensional, his reasons of killing can be deep-rooted in his childhood like Mr. Freeze and also in Carnage: Mindbomb his powers could: should be explored.
If he can coerce someone to embrace Chaos, what if he was a cloaked figure in the night, covertly planting spores of chaos in peoples heads only to activate the seeds later and have those people kill in his place. Only to watch for kicks.
Carnage could potentially make an army of people who think just like him ala the Hood.

Agreed. I liked Carnage. He was everything a real villian was supposed to be. Who the hell cares if you rule the world, every thing burns sooner or later, so why not start the flame a little sooner. Besides, Maximum Carnage was one of my favorite Spider-man arcs, I own all 14 parts. Oh yeah, what series is the new Carnage premeiring in? Any clues?
"Artwork is good, at least. It's Clayton Crain, isn't it? "
Yup.

"I would prefer seeing Toxin (from a 2000s miniseries) come back! That was an interesting and original take on the whole symbiotes. (a cop bonded with a symbiote and trying to control it and be a superhero)"
Agreed, not to say that I don't want Carnage back, but I would have liked for Toxin to have come back way earlier. (Avengers: Initiative).
"He got ripped in half. In space. How the f**k do you come back from that? "
I'd think the symbiote left Cletus's body and attached to some meteor/in orbit object coming down to Earth. Cletus dies, it finds new host, ta-da!
"@Power NeXus: Same way how Michael Myers came back from having his head chopped off probably. Cletus was never inside Carnage, Marvel can pull a stunt like that. "
They would have if they wanted Cletus back, but they don't.
I think that even with a new host Kletus still lives on. The symbiote will still have his serial killer instincts and probably impression those onto its new host. I for one am curious to see how the new host handles it. Imagine being a reasonably good guy with a new found uncontrollable urge to kill. The possibilities story wise are much more interesting then just psycho gets a super weapon.
I like the artwork, and Zeb Wells Writing this story gives me a little bit more confidence in his new series.
Carnage is one of hte worst things to come out of the 90s, the worst decade for comic books. This makes Carnage quite possibly the worst recurring villain in comic books. It's SO depressing that Marvel thinks they need to make the fanboys happy and can never introduce a new character.
Preview for Carnage #1.
