This page covers the Marvel comicbook hero Carnage . If this is not the page you were looking for check here.
Origin
Carnage was once serial killer Cletus Kasady, and became Carnage after merging with the offspring of the alien Symbiote called Venom during a prison escape. He was originally conceived as a purely villainous counterpart to Venom, who was being re envisioned as an anti-hero.
His past is uncertain and information given by Kasady himself is often contradictory. Kasady claims his mother tried to kill him after she caught him torturing the family dog. She was apparently beaten to death by Kasady's father, who received no defense from his son during the subsequent trial. Venom; Carnage Unleashed #1. Kasady however seemed to care for his mother, causing him to dig up her grave in Maximum Carnage, totally contradicting his prior account in which he took glee in her death. He also claims he killed his grandmother when he was younger, pushing her down a flight of stairs. By his early twenties, he had been convicted of 11 murders, although he bragged about committing dozens more.
Carnage Unleashed
After Eddie Brock's symbiote returns to bond with him the brute leaves behind a small symbiote trail which allowed itself to bond with Kletus Kasady which transforms into the new red and black symbiote known as Carnage. One night that Kletus Kasady was in prison he seeks a way to escape and kills a guard in prison. After this murder Kletus begins preforming more murders to others and at every crime he leaves his mark on the walls and writes carnage rules.During one attack Spider-Man finds Carnage and as they battle Spider-Man realizes that he is no match for Carnage's powers. After the battle Carnage goes after Jonah Jameson.Spider-Man is desperate and decides to form a truce with Venom to help him take on Carnage.Venom and Spider-Man defeat Carnage with Sonic weapons, but the symbiote still flows through Kletus kasady's bloodstream.
Kasady has been separated from and re-bonded with the symbiote several times. The Carnage symbiote, attracted to stronger hosts, has attempted to bond with Ben Reilly (the former Scarlet Spider and Spider-Man at the time) to become Spider-Carnage, and the Silver Surfer (Creating the insane and vastly powerful Carnage Cosmic). Later, Venom decided to reabsorb the Carnage symbiote "for good." Without the symbiote, Kasady retained the Carnage persona by costuming himself in red paint and continuing his killing sprees (albeit as a powerless human). Soon after, Kasady found an exact replica of the symbiote in The Negative Zone. How this symbiote is an identical copy, or where it came from, has yet to be explained. However, the issues in which Kasady discovered the replica had references to the Spider-Man Unlimited TV series which had been airing at the time and which featured the Carnage symbiote as one of its villains. In this same issue, Spider-Man himself briefly gained the costume the animated version of him from that series wore.
Perhaps the most famous storyline in which Carnage appears is the 1993 Spider-Man event Maximum Carnage. Carnage, and a cadre of psychotic super-villains (consisting of Shriek, Demogoblin, Carrion and Doppelganger) overtook New York, but were driven back by Spider-Man, Venom, the Black Cat, Captain America, Nightwatch, Cloak And Dagger, Deathlok, Morbius and Firestar.
In the 1996 "Web of Carnage" storyline, the Carnage symbiote escapes from the Ravencroft Institute where Cletus Kasady is incarcerated, seeking a stronger host. It takes over Ben Reilly, who had recently replaced Peter Parker as Spider-Man. Reilly has little previous experience with symbiotes, and is unprepared for an enemy that is immune to his spider-sense. Together, they become Spider-Carnage, and the symbiote attempts to force him, both mentally and physically, to kill Peter Parker (then powerless), and other innocent people. Reilly escapes the symbiote's control, barely, with help from Dr. Ashley Kafka and John Jameson, the administrators of Ravencroft.
Carnage starred in the miniseries Venom vs. Carnage, in 2005. The Carnage symbiote spawned a "child" symbiote, which he tried to kill without success. The "child" later bonded with police officer Patrick Mulligan. Carnage felt nothing but hate for the young creature and attempted to kill it, while Venom defended it (oddly enough feeling protective of his "grandchild"). Venom named the new symbiote Toxin. Mulligan has since attempted to steer the symbiote towards heroism instead of murder.
Carnage was one of several super villains trying to escape from The Raft in New Avengers #1-2. However the Sentry flew Carnage outside the Earth's atmosphere and ripped him apart.
Power
Carnage powers are very similar to any other symbiote. He possesses super-human strength, speed, stamina, healing and resistance to injury and all of witch very similar to Venom’s ability. His way to travel around consists to create swing lines and as Marvel describe, he generate "snares" to trap or entangle foes in a very similar way as Spider-Man. His main characteristic to separate him from Venom is his ability to create sharp dagger-like objects with his body with help from the symbiote spawn. His symbiote can also mimic most things to perfection and got the power to block Venom’s ability to track his offspring. He is totally protected from regular bullet and most weapons. Carnage biggest weakness is the heat but he also is little vulnerable to sonic wave.
He is at his best when fighting Spider-Man. Carnage's special abilities allow him to, basically, nullify Parker's "Spide-Man sense", and cause serious damage to the web-slinger. He truly is one of Spider-Man's most feared adversaries. Cletus even has the ability to simply nick or cut himself in a small way and turn into Carnage because the Symbiote is in his Blood Stream.
Alternate Realities
Earth-1610
The Ultimate universes version of Carnage came into being when [[Curt Connors:char:6764]] combined the DNA sequences found in a sample of Spider-Man's blood with DNA sequences found in Richard Parker's research (presumably on the project that created the original Venom symbiote).
When Carnage escapes from the lab it begins making it's way towards Peter Parker's home. In it's wake it leaves a trail of corpses that have been completely drained of their blood. Upon finally confronting Peter Parker it begins to take a new shape, revealing a face that is not unlike his own.
Peter then battles Carnage and eventually tricks Carnage into throwing itself down a smoke stack into the fire below. Carnage is not seen again until one of it's victims, Peter Parker's friend, Gwen Stacy is found alive again. With her reappearance, a series of Peter Parker clones appears. Nick Fury mobilizes the Spider Slayers to bring the situation under control and in the confrontation, the new Gwen Stacy reverts into Carnage and is shot by the Spider Slayers.
Earth-15
On Earth-15 the Carnage symbiote bonded with Spider-Man. His name is the Spider and is the member of the time traveling Weapon X. He was killed by Firestar and was buried in his native universe.
Earth-985
In this reality the Carnage symbiote bonded with Silver Surfer:char. The Surfer fought Spider-Man, the Avengers and Firestar. When she managed to injure the symbiote, he gained enough control of himself and realize what is happening. When he knew that the Carnage symbiote will likely to control him again, He flew towards the sun, destroying them both.
Earth-982
In the MC2 universe, Spider-Girl accidentally released the Carnage symbiote from its containment being care by SHIELD. It bonded to May's friend Moose Mansfield. Carnage later kidnapped May's father and baby brother, Peter and Benjamin, respectively, who was later become possessed by the symbiote and became a little version of Carnage. Spider-Girl manage to kill the symbiote by using a sonic weapon of Reverb, but also caused his little brother to become deaf. May blamed herself for her little brother being deaf, but she was given hope when Normie Osborn opted to pay for the operation to fix Benjamin's ears.
