    A captain in the Kree militia, Mar-Vell rebelled against a racist tyrannical empire to defend Earth and in so doing became the "Protector of the Universe" known as Captain Marvel. Since his tragic death to cancer, Captain Marvel has inspired many superheroes and heroines and his legacy is still felt throughout the Marvel universe.

    If Captain Mar-Vell were a Green Lantern, where would he rank amongst the pantheon of all time greats?

    @Sexy Merc: I'm not asking if he immediately became a Green Lantern. I'm asking more like if his origin were as a Green Lantern and he kept all of his character traits. How would he stack up after years of being a Green Lantern. Basically if Captain Mar-vell were a DC Green Lantern instead of Marvel's wielder of the Nega-bands.

    @Night Thrasher: Oh I see. Well Hal has always had a special connection to the Central Power Battery, Kyle was just gifted and with all the experience he's gained in his journey makes him different from any other Lantern. It's hard to say but I'd put him at a mid to high tier Lantern level, like Sodam, Arisia, Rond Vidar etc.

    @Sexy Merc: I was thinking something similar...I'd probably put him just under Hal and Kyle, but ahead of Guy definitely and probably John.

    @Night Thrasher: Why ahead of Guy? I don't think John either. Both are top tier Lanterns, I don't think he would be on that level. Guy has incredible willpower and John has exceeded the retcon Ring capabilities with his and he's the second most creative Lantern in the Corps, behind Kyle (unless there are some unknown members more creative, which I doubt). I think you're writing off Guy way too quickly.

    @Sexy Merc: I agree...but remember this is THE CAPTAIN MAR-VELL we're talking about. His willpower and heroism could be argued to be on par with Hal. I don't think he's as creative as Kyle or Guy, but I think the willpower factor could put him on par with Hal. I would give him top 5 easily but definitely not the greatest Green Lantern (which is Kyle IMO).

    @Night Thrasher: Maybe it's because you've read more with Mar-Vell then me, but I know a hell of alot about Green Lanterns in general (Pre-Crisis, Post-Crisis) and Mar-Vell would NOT be in the top 5. Hal's willpower was clocked at being the greatest in the universe by numerous sources, including the Guardians. There is no way Mar-Vell's willpower will be on par with his, and on top of that, he has a special link to the Central Power Battery, which no other Green Lantern does.

    @Sexy Merc: I'm basing it off of company recognition. Mar-Vell is the Marvel version of Hal. Not to say he's a rip off, but their basic personality traits transfer remarkably. If Mar-Vell were in DC then I definitely think he'd be up there with Hal. Not trying to downplay Hal, I'm just saying that in their respective universes they are basically mirror images, maybe by design, or maybe coincidental; I don't know.

    Alright. On the subject of this thread I agree that Mar-Vell has the potential to be a top tier lantern. The man didn't give up even in the face of cancer.

    As for the other thread I said that Steve would make a better Blue Lantern. He may have some great will power, but hope just seems like it fits him better.
