So Many Moments In Time
I want to love this cover. I really do. The spiral design is genius, and oh so effective. But contrasting to the 'fragile glass' look from the previous cover, Mike Choi seems to be channeling Freddie Williams II's 'crayon' look for Captain Atom. Blech.
This first arc was a real mess until the end, but this one's shaping up to be what this series seemed to attempt to be earlier on. This issue explores time from a very philosophical perspective, and gives us a time travel story like no other. From the various 'versions' of Captain Atom through time, to the idea of having someone from the past save the future as a loophole... it's all so intriguing.
But a mainstream superhero comic can't get away with simply exploring metaphysical ideas, there has to be a story, there has to be drama and action. Well Krul provides that without losing the depth. A brilliant villain is revealed, and the rest of the world 20 years down the line is full of other interesting surprises.
In Conclusion: 4.5/5
ATOM DIDN'T EVEN LOOK NEARLY AS CRAYON DRAWN AS HE USED TO! Not a whole lot happens in this issue really, but what does happen is chock full of metaphysical excellence. I know I wrote this series off a few issues ago, and advised nobody to pick it up, but I'm regretting my words, because this has become a real treat.
