Bucky and the Patriot square off at the top of a dam rigged to explode.

    THE GOOD
Brubaker's concludes the "Two Americas" story arc with a nasty showdown between Bucky and "Captain America" (The Patriot) and this definitely has the gravitas you'd hope for to the conclusion of such an arc. There was a good dance between the fight and Bucky's internal monologue regarding his stragety, and I especially liked the complexity of his attitude regarding this impostor. He recognizes that this is a good man he's fighting (and indeed, the Patriot conducts himself so honorably in their fight that you could easily see him being the hero in another story). However, he also knows that words won't solve this struggle at this point - - he'll have to take him out. The decision he has to make is a difficult one that recalls one of best stories in Cap's history - - the showdown with Baron Blood.

    THE BAD
The tone of the Nomad back-up feature is so different from the feature, it almost didn't feel appropriate being there. It was almost off-putting to try getting into a story about Ricki and Arana's carefree team-up after such an intense tale of sacrifice. I've been a fan of Luke Ross' for several years, but I don't like how his style has evolved here. Storytelling, layouts, angle choices - - it's all great, but I don't think the heavier shadows suit his work. There were a number of spots where character's face looked a little too anguished to fit the scene (and even their bodies) and I think a lot of that had to do with the linework being too thick.

    THE VERDICT
This is definitely a thrilling conclusion to an intense story. Be ready for some white knuckle tension and some genuinely hard decisions on display. Despite the issues i had with the art (which could be the result of a mismatch with the inker), I still think Ross' art fit the grim tone of the story - - which is why the Nomad back-up, again, felt out of place.

I'm really glad just because Steve's back hasn't meant the end of Buck as Cap.

@Red_Justice: Iagree with U.  I think I prefer if Steve didn't take "Captain America" title and let someone else "fresher" take the title. It would be interesting (Hell, even if Steve didn't come back it still interesting

I overall didn't really care for it. I enjoyed all the other issues leading up to it but the conclusion kind of was a let down to met. I as well had issues with the art. This one just didn't seem nearly as crisp as the previous issues. Plus I think I'm over Bucky Cap and ready for Steve Rogers return. I was also hoping we would get to see the Grand Director at some point. I think that persona really is what made the 1950's Cap a villain in my eyes seeing him as a mentally distraught Cap to me kinda takes a really good potential villain off the table.

I am so surprised at how many people actually don't mind that someone else is Captain America.  With an icon like Captain America usually people are screaming the for the original to return, and now that he has, people are reacting like they don't care that he's just gonna be Steve Rodgers.  Only Wally West is getting a similar reaction but that's because he's been Flash for over 20 something years, while Steve has been dead for like what, 4?  that's what's interesting.  Bucky is a winner here and I didn't think that would ever happen.  I figured he'd be well liked just not excepted as Captain America when Stever Rodgers is around.  Wouldn't be funny if Bruce Wayne stays Bruce Wayne and leaves Dick Grayson as Batman.  Never happen, but I said the same thing about Bucky Cap.

@goldenkey:  Yea I have been surprised by it as well. I really enjoy the character but I think I just found the Winter Solider much more interesting. But still Bru is writing intriguing so I'm not up in arms about it.

So are you saying '50s Cap dies? Not surprising, considering the smug, condescending tone of the other issues in this arc that caused me to drop the title, but disappointing nonetheless. I liked him far better than Bucky.
