@risingbean @cap10nate @war_killer @i_like_swords @tg1982 @wolverine08@extremis Check this out, on the day of TWS' North American release - it just so happened to be RDJ's birthday. So he invited a bunch of people and some lucky kids to watch the new movie with him! Quote from his Twitter:

"What better way to spend my birthday than recognizing the cosmic miracle of Captain America 2 opening the same day? Gonna wrangle about twenty kids to watch it with and partaaaaaaaaaaaaay Marvel-style!!!"

Yeah I saw that on RDJ's facebook page. He's a really cool dude!

@slimj87d: Best CBM so far in my opinion. Just barely above MoS in terms of personal enjoyment. I'm going to go see it a third time tomorrow after class and work.

@hushofthewind: @war_killer: I'd think Buck was enhanced when he was captured by Zola in First Avenger. I say this because nobody who isn't an alien or metahuman has given Cap much trouble. Batroc did the best, and even he got smashed once Steve found his footing and got serious.

I'm getting the WS, Golden Age Cap and I made a deal with my GF. If she gets me the Premium Stealth Suit + Civilian Captain America figures, then it'll be her gift to me for all our celebrations, anniversary, birthday and christmas lol.

I didn't see anything that implied Zola enhanced Bucky in any way. From what I gathered was that Zola (and most likely the Red Skull) saw how skilled Bucky was and decided to use him for their own purpose. This is something that will need to be addressed in a third installment though. Since Steve was given a file on how Bucky became the Winter Soldier (similar to the comics), we'll most likely learn about what they did to him and how he came to be the ruthless killer we see him as in Cap 2.

In the First Avenger we did see that Bucky was a skilled sniper, but we never really saw him show any forms of hand-to-hand combat. I'm hoping that in Cap 3 Steve will explain how deadly Bucky was during the war, similarly to how he was in the comics, and that was why Hydra choose to transform him into the Winter Soldier, because they saw how dangerous he could be.

@war_killer: In First Avenger, Steve finds Buck strapped down in Zola's laboratory. Combine that with the fact the the only people to really hang with Steve are Red Skull and Buck and there you go, line of logic. Batroc made a nice show, but he never had Steve on the ropes. Rumlow didn't either. Is it possible that Buck was eating his wheaties and the cyborg arm made up the difference? I suppose but it sure didn't seem like it to me.

I'm with you on Cap 3. I'm excited for the exposition. And I'm hoping they tie Zemo into it somehow.

@veshark: Unfortunately the events of The Winter Soldier won't stop Agents of SHIELD by the way. An IGN article I read states that the last 6 episodes will deal with the fallout from the film and apparently one of the team will betray everyone else indicating that they're a HYDRA agent. So it seems this show will still keep going.

Eurgh, I really dislike AoS. I stayed with the show up until halfway through its first season, but dropped it when the quality never rose above freezing temp. It's just...way too pedestrian and below-par to be part of the MCU. Honestly, I hope the show either gets cancelled or finds a new writing team.

Speaking of, I just started watching Arrow, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it so far. A massive step-up from Smallville, and it's a damn shame I gave AoS a chance instead of this.

@risingbean @slimj87d @tg1982 @i_like_swords Random thought that popped into my head: they never did address the symbolism behind the red star on Buck's bionic arm in the movie, right? In the comics it's the Russian/communist symbol, and later the SHIELD model had a more American star on it. I just kinda assumed that in the MCU it's...well, just a red star. A possible parallel to Cap's own shield?

They never mention it. I took it as just being design, but maybe it does have some history.

I'm interested in seeing Widow vs Buck from the past. Sounds like a cool arc.

Anyone else feel like they have potential at the end of the film for a civil war kind of story. With black widow mouthing off the the US government the way she did, I could see them wanted to take over and have all the heroes under their thumb.

I believe they did. The Russian's were the ones that found him see Russian soldiers in their uniform carrying him in the snow. They were the ones that carried him and kept him for Zola. They were the ones that put the arm on and everything, that's why he spoke Russian to his guys he was working with. It's also why he has a file from Russia.

I'm guessing it was a Russian Hydra division.

@slimj87d: Now that you mention it...

Makes the most sense to me. If Hydra infiltrated SHIELD, why not the Russians too?

Edit @space4rentt Sure. All six superheroes shown thus far? Tbh, I doubt it would be a main plot because there simply isn't enough heroes but I could see it as a minor subplot. I don't see it causing the heroes to come to blows either.

I think I know what's going to happen in the next movie. The next Captain America movie will take place in Europe, Bucky and Nick Fury will be there. They could possibly be working together.

Union Jack and Spitfire will have a high chance of appearing.

The Red Skull and Lukin still have a chance of appearing. Maybe Lukin never really existed, and the Red Skull has been alive this whole time, and Bucky is the only one that knows about it.

The 3rd Avengers can see Steve either dying or disappearing along with the Avengers, or they can go the civil war route but I really hope they don't. Civil war takes too much time and energy to tell the tale. We'll see.

But I get a huge feeling Bucky might get a chance to be captain America if they decide to move on to doing 4, 5 and 6.

    Love the Dr. Strange shoutout

Black Widow needs her own movie

    Acting was phenomenal

The Hydra twist was unexpected but certainly welcome. (Unlike IM3 Mandarin twist...)

Easy some of the best fight sequences in any Marvel movie

Falcon kicked ass and wouldn't mind if he was in Age of Ultron or his own movie.

Can't believe they managed to make Batroc work in a movie

Now it makes sense why Senator Stern wanted Tony to hand over the Iron Man suit in IM2 since he's working for Hydra

I wonder if Justin Hammer was working for Hydra, looking back as everything.

I nearly jumped out of my seat when Strucker appeared and then the camera moved over to the twins I immediately had a feeling how Age of Ultron was going to play out.

Easily the best phase 2 film and my new favorite CBM movie. My only complaint is that I wish there was a Hawkeye cameo

@risingbean Hah, yeah I suppose. I'm working my way through S2 right now.

@slimj87d Yeah, I still recall that bit about the Russian soldiers. I'm glad that WS still has ties to the Motherland though. Even if there's no Aleksander Lukin, it's a part of the character's history, and it makes his name make more sense too. Hopefully there's the potential to build some stories with Widow there.

As for your predictions for Cap 3...I don't know, I don't see any indication of either Union Jack, Spitfire, or even the Skull appearing. I don't think it'll be an adaptation of the Red Menace storyline. I think the writers hinted that it might see the introduction of 50s Cap. Frankly, I'm hoping for Nuke.

And I'm with you for Cap 3. Based on the hints dropped so far, I'm hoping for Nuke too. That whole WW2/Vietnam Just War/Dirty War angle. I'm just finding a 50's Cap to be absurd.

My initial hesitance to try the series stemmed from Smallville, the first CW superhero production. But I'm happy to say that Arrow takes every thing a step up in quality. Sure, the acting and dialogue is really iffy at points; but they make up for it with an ambitious story with multiple subplots, good use of DC mythology, and likeable characters. I was afraid that this was going to be another 'Rich People Having Rich Problems' show ala...well half of the CW's catalog, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Might give it a 8/10 for Season 1.

I think the Vietnam War (and the Cold War on a whole) has more modern-day relevance than...well 50s McCarthyism.

@veshark: Thumbs up on both points. I also didn't like Smallville. If you're gonna do Superman, but can't deal with costumes or flight? Go take a long walk off a short pier. I did check out season 6 (if memory serves) because Green Arrow was on it. Still wasn't a good enough show to continue with.

And uh. tying it back on topic. Um. I got nothin'.

@veshark: well the next story will be bucky focused again sorta, and what better way would it be to be to follow brubakers arc when cap went to Europe. Nick Fury is already heading there as well.

There's already a lot of foreshadowing for us to see. The screen writers have laid it out for us to try and follow imo.

@risingbean Smallville was alright in the first two seasons before it totally jumped the shark. But see, the one disadvantage that Smallville had was that it was supposed to show us Clark's life before Superman. So you go in with the expectation that he'll one day grow up to become the comic-book version of Superman. But in Arrow, you know that the character and the entire world is being reinvented.

But yeah, we should probably cut back to the topic at hand. Um...Arrow & Winter Soldier are both great superhero adaptations?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is by far the best movie of all time. Everything about it was great from the characters, to the plot, to the fight scenes, and more. By far the best scenes were the two fight scenes between Captain America and the Winter Soldier, and Bucky catching Captain America's shield. A couple things I wanted in the movie is for Bucky's Winter Soldier past to be explored more like in the comic where Steve is looking at his file, and for Bucky to feel the deep emotional trauma of finding out who he really is like what happened in the comics.

@tg1982: I think I already clarified all this. Russian soldiers were seen dragging him in the snow, and seeing that the file of his was in Russian that had the data of his transformation, I'm sure lie worked with or is associated with a Russian division of Hydra. He also uses Soviet specialized weapons and his men were Russian.

God, I hope they don't do a 50's Cap story, that'll be absurd. It only worked in the comics because,

    A. 50's Cap was a retcon.

    B. It's comics, as we all know, thing in comics can be more tolerated that on TV shows and Movies.

I'm hoping for Zemo, or maybe Strucker.

I think the writers hinted that it might see the introduction of 50s Cap. Frankly, I'm hoping for Nuke.

Yeah, I don't think 50s Cap is a good idea. But I can see how the Avengers are in danger right now. I don't think there will be a Civil War, but the US is trying to arrest them already, you can see that tension. They're just waiting with handcuffs already.

I really hope we see Bucky become Captain America, then Ed Brubaker would have really did a lot of crazy things in his career.

Strucker's going to be in Avengers 2, so I'd wager he's out. Zemo's only good if they want to go the route of a Masters of Evil plot in an Avengers movie.

If they want to go the 50s Cap route, I'd really much rather have Nuke - portrayed in the vein of Ultimate Nuke. 50s Cap is just...well, a little too generic. He dresses like Cap (barring the Grand Director outfit); and he's basically angry Cold War Cap who believes America has fallen. Nuke (at least the Ultimate version) is basically the same thing, except that he has a much more dynamic and iconic visual design. The name certainly helps as well. 'Nuke' nails home the point a lot better than 50s Cap, Bad Cap, or William Burnside.

As for Buck becoming Cap, I hope that's a little further off. Let Steve have Cap 3 and Avengers 2 and 3 first. I want to see him get his due before we move on to Bucky Cap. And I hope they don't pull a Civil War. There's not really a feasible way to pull it off with the current state of the MCU, I feel. Superheroes are still a very new phenomenon in the MCU.

Lol, you thought I wanted Bucky to become Captain America right now? That doesn't make any sense, of course I mean when Evan's contract is up. We know Evans is going to disappear as Capf or awhile.

The storyline for me will take place in Europe. They have it perfectly setup already. nick Fury is in Europe, whatever was done to Bucky was performed in Europe as well. Both of them will most likely be focusing their efforts there. Steve and Sam can still go after Bucky.

Lukin can STILL exist, but they don't have to play the split personalities. It could just be the Red Skull in disguise.

They have tons of plot elements with Lukin, he has his dirty money in dozens of industries, he's also responsible for a lot of murders Bucky committed and at one point he almost had his own US President. I really think Lukin/ Red Skull is the way to go. For a Captain America villain, it has to be just as plot driven as it is action, and people want a good movie that can reflect the times that we're in. Lukin was a character Ed Brubaker wrote to reflect these times, he'd be good.

These type of impacts and current events is what Captain America 3 has to tackle IMO, just like how Captain America 2 hit the whole "big brother is watching you" theme.

@veshark: @slimj87d: They could just start a Winter Soldier franchise, instead of replacing Cap. Just a thought.

@slimj87d: I think Lukin could be a good idea for a villain in Cap 3.

he's an excellent villain because he has a lot of money and power due to his control in oil and mortgages in the US. He caused huge riots and almost tore cities apart.

I didn't say that you wanted Bucky to become Cap now, I just said 'I hope it's a little further off'. Not sure where you got that from.

Honestly, I can't say that I care much for the idea of using Aleksander Lukin. As far as Cap villains go, we've had far more memorable than one who was essentially a host for the Red Skull.

Though I will say this...the idea of using a corporation as a villain might be a very good 21st century allegory for America's industrial complex and economy. We've already had Nazism and the government as Cap themes...so why not the nature of corporate America for Cap 3? If they can make Lukin more interesting, I'm game.

Well it doesn't' have to be Lukin. I actually don't' think Lukin should exist, but rather it was the Red Skull the whole time. Or even Arnim Zola. Lukin is only good if they want to keep the Winter Soldier around and continue his connection to a villain.

But they way they set up Bucky, anyone in Hydra can become his target.
