Captain America

Character » Captain America appears in 6633 issues.

Too scrawny and frail to enlist in the U.S. Military during World War II, Steve Rogers volunteered to receive the experimental Super-Soldier Serum. i know the answer to this but i want your opinion on this subject

@SteveRodgers: Captain America is essentially the epitome of an American superhero who participated in important historical events, such as World War II.  He helped fight against the Nazis, and overall Captain America represents liberty, freedom and justice, which the United States of America aspires to adhere to.  I think that is why he is a relatively popular and "great" superhero.

why shouldn't he be?

I respectfully disagree. Spider-Man is probably the greatest superhero Marvel has both within the fiction of the Marvel Universe and in terms of global popularity.

He is? Am sorry I must have missed that memo.
Anyway draping a character into the U.S.A flag seems to usually make him pretty popular in the States (Captain America/Superman/ Wonder Woman/ Spider-Man)

Deleted my other post. Wanted to say something a little more articulate.

People view him as the American Dream. As the personification of everything this country stands for. He is the literal idealization of the American Dream. This makes him relatable on an everyman level. Is he my favorite hero? Nope. But do I understand why he is a lot of American's favorite hero? I sure do.

Him punching Hitler in "Captain America #1" was the reason his first issue sold over a million copies.

Captain America is Marvel's greatest superhero, huh?

Whether he is or not is debatable, but an arguement can be made for him being Marvel's greatest hero.

Some points in favor of him being Marvel's greatest are:
He's one of their oldest
He's one of the purest, most honorable, most noble and most altruistic
He's an American Icon
He never compomises his morals and he never gives up
He's one of the their most recognizable superheroes in both name and appearance which makes him one of the most marketable
He's perhaps the most respected within Marvel's fictional universe
He's truly heroic, not an anti-hero
He was co-created by Jack Kirby, but without Stan Lee

I agree with him. Cap may represent America as a whole, but Spider-Man represents the everyday American with his many problems and his continuing spirit in the face of adversity. Sider-Man is also tons more popular than Cap, Since Spider-Man is the third most recognized Super-hero and third most popular in both cases after Supes and Batman.

He is definantly my favorite but like other people have said he seems to be the embodiment of America.

Very good reasons.

But i'd have to agree that Spider-Man is a bit more popular

@Kallarkz\

Yeah, I can't argue against the fact that Spider-Man is more popular than Captain America, but this thread isn't about popularity; it's about greatness.
Captain America isn't the most popular Marvel superhero, but he might be the greatest.
