i know the answer to this but i want your opinion on this subject
Captain America
Character » Captain America appears in 11747 issues.
During World War II, Steve Rogers volunteered to receive the experimental Super-Soldier Serum. Enhanced to the pinnacle of human physical potential and armed with an unbreakable shield, he became Captain America. After a failed mission left him encased in ice for decades, he was found and revived by the Avengers, later joining their ranks and eventually becoming the team's leader.
why is captain america the greatist superhero that marvel has?
" @SteveRodgers: Captain America is essentially the epitome of an American superhero who participated in important historical events, such as World War II. He helped fight against the Nazis, and overall Captain America represents liberty, freedom and justice, which the United States of America aspires to adhere to. I think that is why he is a relatively popular and "great" superhero. "can't say it better myself
" I respectfully disagree. Spider-Man is probably the greatest superhero Marvel has both within the fiction of the Marvel Universe and in terms of global popularity. "
Deleted my other post. Wanted to say something a little more articulate.
People view him as the American Dream. As the personification of everything this country stands for. He is the literal idealization of the American Dream. This makes him relatable on an everyman level. Is he my favorite hero? Nope. But do I understand why he is a lot of American's favorite hero? I sure do.
" @comicdude23: More popular doesn't mean better, Justin Beiber is currently more popular than Led Zeppelin and he damn sure ain't better "QFT
Captain America is Marvel's greatest superhero, huh?
Whether he is or not is debatable, but an arguement can be made for him being Marvel's greatest hero.
Some points in favor of him being Marvel's greatest are:
He's one of their oldest
He's one of the purest, most honorable, most noble and most altruistic
He's an American Icon
He never compomises his morals and he never gives up
He's one of the their most recognizable superheroes in both name and appearance which makes him one of the most marketable
He's perhaps the most respected within Marvel's fictional universe
He's truly heroic, not an anti-hero
He was co-created by Jack Kirby, but without Stan Lee
" I respectfully disagree. Spider-Man is probably the greatest superhero Marvel has both within the fiction of the Marvel Universe and in terms of global popularity. "I agree with him. Cap may represent America as a whole, but Spider-Man represents the everyday American with his many problems and his continuing spirit in the face of adversity. Sider-Man is also tons more popular than Cap, Since Spider-Man is the third most recognized Super-hero and third most popular in both cases after Supes and Batman.
" @Hamz said:Me too. They seem to make Spider-man t-v shows and movies first" I respectfully disagree. "Very good reasons.

But i'd have to agree that Spider-Man is a bit more popular
Are you people crazy? He is not the best! He barley has powers! I can name 10000 heroes, much better than him.
"this isn't about most powerful, this is about greatness. being a great hero....

" @Kallarkz\Wolverine is more popular as well.
Yeah, I can't argue against the fact that Spider-Man is more popular than Captain America, but this thread isn't about popularity; it's about greatness. Captain America isn't the most popular Marvel superhero, but he might be the greatest. "
Captain America is the best for the following reason. Steve Rogers wanted to fight along his fellow solders before he had Super powers. he was week and had no business going into a fight, but he felt it was his duty to fight along with the other Americans who were laying down their life. he was a hero before he was a superhero. in contrast superman was born with super powers so he thought, "well hell I guess no one can beat me so I better protect everybody else". the same can be said about thor, and wonder woman. batman turned himself into a superhero to avenge his parents death using his billions. had his parents not died would there be a batman or just a really nice charitable billionaire? spider-man was using his powers for personal gain at first. he's better now but has his personal interest always on alert. iron man's reason mirrors batman. without personal necessity would there be a iron man? Steve Rogers was going to be a hero, weather as super solder or a statistic on D-Day. plus we aren't talking about the most popular superhero, or the most powerful. we are talking about the greatest super HERO.
@superskrull86: you are wrong on so many levels

Yup
Because he wants to be, if you do not agree tell that to him (you might need a face reconstruction after that).
Spider Man, Wolverine, and the Hulk have one thing in common. They have all been beaten by Captain America.it's true you don't need powers to be a great super hero, just look at Punisher and Batman. but Steve Rogers wanted to volunteer for the army when he was classified 4f. he wanted to help fight the forces of evil; not only with no powers, but with a clear weakness.
its because he was the original super hero in the marvel universe. he is my favorite because everything he stands for not because he can beat everybody. he went from normal guy to hero based on who he was inside. he is the leader of the avengers because he is respected so much and is a tactical genius. that's why he was winning in civil war before he surrendered even though he had far less resources than iron man. he had a team that believed in him and he knows how to fight a war.
I compare him to tom brady. he isn't the fastest or strongest, but he gets the job done better than anybody else. you want him calling the shots, and he will make the people around him better.
this is why I think he's the best "hero" in marvel. but he won't beat every body. and if you disagree that's cool I get he isn't for everone
He is built on never give up theology
Could you imagine how good we could all be if we followed Caps code!

Nicely put.
Bravo!
I guarantee that at least 500 of those superheroes you can mention have had their asses handed to them by Captain America. and the other haven't met him or just won't mess with that. Powers and all.
p.s those pictures you show are misleading. cap was handcuffed in the first one and threw himself in the range of fire to save a police man and was shot by his lover agent 13 at close range, while she was hypnotized. and in the second picture yeah iron man punched him but then he got whooped by cap later in that very same fight, they ended up parting ways not wanting to hert each other.
Captain America is much like spider man, he has a good heart, he wants to do things for the best and he is a good person and a great hero.
spider man is better because he would definitely win in a fight as he is practically invincible (if you have read the comic where all heroes turn bad but spidey and he still beats every hero together) and also the fact that spider man does not kill, he only help the enemy to become the nest they can and saves them, this is just one of the reasons spider man is the greatest super hero of all time.
Spider-Man is Marvel's greatest, says so on his own series headline in Amazing Spider-Man, plus Peter Parker radiates purity and determination more than Steve Rogers and is actually the most innocent and most sociable super hero in the Marvel U, Steve is to strict and old fashioned to be on Spider-Man's level of charisma, and only represents ideals for people.
