    Scratch one name off the CAPTAIN AMERICA casting list we posted a while back. Leave four actors and probably who-knows-how-many others on it. Michael Cassidy, known as Julian Luthor and SMALLVILLE and for almost playing Kal El in McG's almost- Superman movie, has confirmed he’s out of the running on his Twitter account.

    So Tweets Mr. Cassidy…

    @ typertist No Captain America for me.

    Not too much ambiguity in that statement. It just improves the chances of some dashing unknown riding in like a dark horse candidate and landing the role.

     Now, just imagine this face under five pounds of red, skeletal make-up.
     Now, just imagine this face under five pounds of red, skeletal make-up.

    The scoop comes from Slashfilm, who also has some tidbits about THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA that I was hitherto unaware.

    * Big surprise, but the Red Skull has been confirmed as the villain? I suppose we ought to pour some speculative grain into the rumor mill and get it grinding. Who should play Johann Schmidt? Christoph Woltz of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS? Udo Kier of BLADE? WER?!?!

     Super-soldier serum administration for a new generation...
     Super-soldier serum administration for a new generation...

    * The movie won’t be 3D like Green Lantern.  No, ma'am! It’ll be traditional 2D, but un-traditional HD. 2DHD. Sounds like R2D2’s cousin. Director Joe Johnston says he wants to make visual style different and emulate the style of recent comics in a way that’s never been tried before. I’m hoping that’s not like the split-screen panels in Ang Lee’s HULK. They were fun to see there, but it’s best to leave that trick to one movie, lest its magic dissipate. I don’t know if the other Marvel films have been shot in HD, but I’d be tickled if they tried to shoot this in the frenetic HD style of CRANK: HIGH VOLTAGE. Now, THAT’S never been tried in a superhero movie before.

     * Whoever signs on for Steve Rogers role is going to be on for a possible NINE-PICTURE deal! Wow... Marvel has plans within plans.

    Thank god for crossing Cassidy of the list, he doesn't even look like Cap. I think Seth Macfarlane or Christoph Waltz could pull off Red Skull.

    Woltz seems to be the defacto Nazi bad suggestion guy now, lol, not sure if that's the kind of type-casting I'd like if I was an actor, but I guess if it gets you work then there's not much to complain about.

    How about Malcom McDowell as Red Skull?  He's made a career out of being creepy and can do a pretty good German accent.

     Christoph Waltz would be the best red skull ever!

    I just want to know who is captain america already! I am starting to wonder if they are competing with the spider-man reboot announcment. they both want to ruin eachothers thunder on who is cast ha ha.

    picture deal is sweet! but realistic in the sence of: 3 captain america movies, 3 avengers movies, and cameos in 3 other movies (iron man 3, ant man, the nick fury sheild movie) thats 9 movies right there.

    Damn I almost wish it was for more movies. they should just start doing kick ass (hbo quality) tv shows. I always thought "heros for hire" and "daredevil" would make great shows. But now I am off topic.

    @Tom Pinchuk:
    Yeah, I think if I was an actor I'd rather have a string roles as the short ugly guy who constantly get's probed by aliens in very uncomfotable places or that guy who's in a string of the Valtrex commercials expressing that I'm worried about spreading it to my partner (rather than say plotting a horrible fiery revenge on the person who gave it to you in the first place, although that idea might make for some fun Valtrex commercials in and of itself) than be an out of work actor who serves brautwursts at the commisary at Disney Studios to the likes of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers and has to go home and look in the mirror when the day is done.

    So yeah, maybe being a Nazi in movies isn't such a bad thing now that I've put that in perspective for myself.

    @MemnochZERO:
    That's a good casting choice as well, Fiennes could totally rock out the Red Skull role.

    Umm marvel said that the list was people who were confirmed to read for the part not that they would get the part or that their was not others up for the part.People are jumping the gun an imho some actors are useing the casting for their shot at some buzz.

    That said theirs some high drama behind the sceens as the director has left it already once.Loseing faith that it will be a decent film.

    Waltz would be better as Zemo

    Thomas Kretschmann (Wanted) would be a better choice for Red Skull. Especially on the phyiscality side.

     I have a leaning toward Josh Hartnettas Cap because he can, and a few other runner ups.

    As Red Skull, I was thinking, perhaps, Christopher Plummer, Wes Studi, Max Von Sydow, Morgan Freeman, Jeremy Irons,  F. Murray Abraham, Charles Dance, Frank Langella, Christopher Lloyd, Ian McShane, Arnold Vosloo, Leonard Nimoy, Robin Williams, Alan Arkin, John Lithgow, Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Landau or Angus Scrimm. How's that for a little actors list.

    Or, they can give both roles to Stan.
