Too scrawny and frail to enlist in the U.S. Military during World War II, Steve Rogers volunteered to receive the experimental Super-Soldier Serum. Enhanced to the pinnacle of human physical potential he became Captain America. Now leader of the Avengers, Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Captain America is a living legend and embodiment of freedom.
Steve is the preferred choice to carry the shield. But both offer something different, were Steve was more of a symbol for a America. Bucky is a soldier, he doesn't mask the fact that he's willing to use a gun, or kill a villian. He does what has to be done to keep people safe.
They are both good in their own respective ways. Obviously, Steve is the dearest as he's the original. However, I think Bucky has been doing as good of a job as possible with it. It's the same type of situation with Batman: some people like Grayson as Bats, and some don't. I'm in the former category.
To be honest, I don't mind whenever a company kills a character off and brings someone else in for a while, as it makes you realize how irreplaceable some characters are. While Grayson makes an alright Batman, he definitely isn't Bruce. While Bucky makes an alright Captain America, he isn't Steve. Back when Bane broke Bruce's back, Azrael just wasn't as good. Superman's death? The subsequent...what, FOUR Superman spinoffs...they weren't as good.
We need these moments in comic history to make us realize why these characters are the superheroes that they are. Plus, it gives a chance to refresh a series, get new readers into it without making them feel super overwhelmed by all the back history. Once they get into the new stuff, then they go back and start reading the old stuff to play some catch-up.
i like that idea, minus the sunset. i think that it'd be cool that after steve came back he picks up a different mantle. Marvel is pretty famous for doing that it might work out well. who knows maybe we'll see a Goliath Steve rogers, or hopefull something more badass.
@sfizzle: Maybe Captain Commando? You know with a bandana that goes down into a mask, and a camo sleeveless shirt with a star on the chest, and cargo pants with combat boots. And a green shield with a star on it.
Totally going with Steve. I mean he was the Orginal. Like Coke Classic. I do love the stuff that Bucky is and represents. I like how when he first donned the costume it was about trying to live up to the standards Steve Rogers set knowing it was impossbile to achieve. I thought that was very cool.
Bucky just is to violent for the part i mean he is meant to be Captain America the perfect example of the American way (even though that is like the real america) he just isn't meant to be like that.
Bucky. I love Steve as top cop (plus his new suit is badass), but I want Bucky to stay as Cap longer because it gives Steve time to explore other options when it comes to his hero career. No matter who weilds the shield, Steve is always gonna be Cap so would everybody just give Bucky a chance.
