Which one is better?
I'm thinking of reading Ultimate Captain America issue 1
Captain America
Character » Captain America appears in 11750 issues.
During World War II, Steve Rogers volunteered to receive the experimental Super-Soldier Serum. Enhanced to the pinnacle of human physical potential and armed with an unbreakable shield, he became Captain America. After a failed mission left him encased in ice for decades, he was found and revived by the Avengers, later joining their ranks and eventually becoming the team's leader.
Ultimate Captain America or 616 Steve Rogers?
One of the few times where both versions are so excellent that choosing one is almost like splitting hairs.
I can't help but think of these characters in terms of politics, classic cap is a New Deal era Dem and Ultimate Cap, well, I'm not sure entirely but certain dialogue (crapping on France when classic Cap has expressed nothing but the highest respect for the French resistance?) remind me of various jokes I'd heard (and, embarrassingly, even repeated) while going to a very conservative university during the beginning of the Iraq war.
I'm not saying you should only like characters whose politics you agree with, but it doesn't make sense to me that Cap's attitudes would reflect modern political views on either side of the spectrum. I certainly don't see him crapping on WWII allies.
I like Ultimate Cap because they portray him more as a soldier, which is something I wish they'd do with his 616 version more. But what I also like about his Ultimate version is that they are open and point out that he is a Christian and believes in God, which, as a Christian myself, I rarely see in comics and despite those who might argue, I wholeheartedly believe that 616 Cap is a Christian as well.
But as for who I like more, it would have to be 616 Cap, without a doubt.
