Just wondering. Do you think it would make for a good ascetic change to have Captain America wear an American Flag-styled cape? Of course it wouldn't just be for looking cool, but would be flame retardant, and offer a lot of the functionality that Batman's cape affords him.

Would you like to see a cape added to the costume at all? Yes? No? Reasons?

No. A cape worn by a superhero screams "I'M A GOD MOTHAF*CKAS", and that's what guys like Superman, Batman, Sentry, etc are.

Cap meanwhile, isn't a godlike savior of mankind. He's not the "champion of freedom and the American way", he's just a soldier. The theme of soldier and cape heroes don't exactly fit well.

Well, literally wearing the American flag is against the United States Flag Code, which Steve must have violated in Earth X. Also, seeing as his entire costume is already flag-themed (including all three colors, stars and stripes), I think a flag-themed cape would be redundant.

Of course, this is all from an aesthetic design standpoint. As Batman has demonstrated, capes have a number of uses, including protection from hazards and gliding. However, Captain America already has his shield (again, redundancy), and a partner, Falcon, who can fly (plus, cape-gliding would be really awkward with the shield). I also don't think a cape would fit Cap's fighting style. It would probably just slow him down.
