Earlier today Marvel announced that writer Cullen Bunn is working on the new Captain America and Hawkeye series which will take over for Captain America and Bucky starting this April. The artist on the series is Alessandro Vitti. During Marvel's live blog Bunn revealed that he has been a fan of Captain America for a long time, so he is very excited to be working on the series.

    No Caption Provided

The series will consist of four issues and will showcase team-ups with Captain America and various other characters. As for what the series' first arc is going to be about? Well, it's rather unconventional, really. The focus of Cullen's story will be to delve into the relationship between Captain America and Hawkeye and to show how the two Avengers work together while showcasing their differences. According to Bunn, the story will involve some very interesting prehistoric creatures.

I'm a huge Captain America fan. As a much younger writer, Hawkeye was one of the characters I loved the most. So I jumped all over this...The simple way to describe the first arc is that Captain America and Hawkeye go out and fight a bunch of dinosaurs. That's how I pitched it. Cap and Hawkeye have gone through so much together, but they have a very different approach to how they do things. I wanted to explore that relationship and how they see each other.

The first four issues of the series will feature a Captain America and Hawkeye team-up; after that, readers will see Bunn's Captain America team-up with various other characters in the Marvel Universe for an array of different adventures. So why choose Hawkeye to team up with Captain America, first? Bunn revealed that he has a soft spot for Hawkeye, and that he is generally attracted to "archer characters."

    == TEASER ==

"I've always connected with Hawkeye. He's got that Robin Hood thing going on. For some reason archer characters are always interesting. He's a rogue, he's got a big personality, he's a smart ass--all those things help him along. He's a 'regular guy' but he's also the greatest archer in the world. In the face of overwhelming odds, he never backs down, and I think people can relate to that. He's as close to an everyman as you can get in a world where people can knock down buildings with a punch...In many ways Clint really admires Cap and they're best of friends, but they get under each others' skins like nobody else. I love my brothers, I'd do anything for them, but they drive me nuts sometimes. I channeled a lot of that into this book."

The series won't feel too disconnected with the rest of the goings on in the Marvel Universe, although it's likely you won't have to read anything else in order to follow Cullen's story. Based on the interview, it seems the writer will be trying to make the book as accessible to new readers as possible while still referencing the current Marvel Universe continuity. Captain America & Hawkeye launch this April and will replace the current Captain America & Bucky title. Are you looking forward to the change?

Why change Hawkeye's costume? Is it just to sync up with the movie? I always thought Hawkeye had a cool costume.

I don't think that this one is a bad book at its concept though. I have to say, Hawkeye is pretty popular as far as characters go, its just that he can't hold onto an ongoing -- so pitting him with a lesser character like Mockingbird wasn't a good idea, but having him with Cap is an alright idea.

Agreed to a point. But it's over-saturation nonetheless. Hawkeye is in what, three books, now?

Avengers and New Avengers don't count unless you read them. They're like the Lil Wayne of Comic Books. He gets Secret Avengers and this book, kind of like a Solo Title and a team book.

Why does Cap need a book where he team's up with random heroes that he's probably teamed-up with a million times already over the years...? O_o

Seems like a why for Marvel to milk the Avengers movie, plus seeing as it comes out a month before the movie...*hint, hint*... -__-

We went from three books to...

    Six.

    You win.

Still don't feel like they're milking it for this specific case.

I never liked that they changed the title to Captain America and Bucky to begin with...it never made sense to rename an already existing title, just to launch a new title of the exact same name...

I knew I was going to have to drop this when Brubaker left, too bad.

On the other hand I am adding all six of DC's Second Wave, so this weeks announcements are a net positive.

Marvel is really pimping out Hawkeye lately in proep for the movie, that along with his lame-@$$, movie-esque costume. I'm surprised to see marvel giving a character other that the usual suspects **cough**Spider-man**cough** or **cough**Deadpool**cough** a team-up book. But why call it Captain America and Hawkeye? Are they really going to change the title every time they switch partners, or are they going to can the series, since they won't need to pimp the Avengers after the movie is over.

@The Impersonator: They could have used either of Marvel's classic team-up books titles from the old days: Marvel Team-Up or Marvel Two-in-One, but Captain America's name will sell more comics. That is the reason they are using Avenging Spider-Man instead of Marvel Team-Up, which was Spider-Man's traditional team-up book..

Marvel didn't really have a choice. Brubaker is leaving to write Winter Soldier. They could have made him stay on CA & B, but I would rather see Brubaker finish his Winter Soldier story that he started years ago.
