As the Macho Man would say, we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty…
According to THR’s Heat Vision blog, director Joe Johnston and Marvel are screen-testing for actors to play Steve Rogers throughout the week. The five named auditoning actors are...
John Krasinski - - Odds are, you already know about this guy as Jim Halpert on THE OFFICE, the smirking, lip-biting dude from Dunder-Mifflin's sales department.
Michael Cassidy - - This guy already has a comics connection, having appeared in SMALLVILLE as Lex Luthor's cloned-and-aged brother, Jullian. He also screen-tested for SUPERMAN RETURNS back when McG was still attached to direct it.
Patrick Flueger - - "Shawn Farrel" from the sci-fi show THE 4400, you could recently see him playing opposite Spider-Man and the Prince of Persia (Tobey Maguire & Jake Gyllenhaal) in the home-from-war drama BROTHERS.
Scott Porter - - You might know him as a quadriplegic footballer in the FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS show, but there's a better chance you'll know him as Speed Racer's big brother, Rex, from the Wachowski Brother's colorful 2008 adaptation.
Mike Vogel - - "Hawk" from JJ Abraham's "man on the street's view of Kaiju" monster movie CLOVERFIELD. You'll be able to see him in a couple weeks in the person-ranking romantic comedy SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE. He actually was originally offered the role of Angel in X-MEN 3, but pulled out.
Chace Crawford (GOSSIP GIRL), Garret Hedlund (TRON: LEGACY) and Jensen Ackles (SUPERNATURAL) are other names who’ve been batted around, but they either haven’t singed for a test yet or have conflicting schedules. Marvel wanted to stress that none of these actors may end up getting the role.
Fantasy picks, I'd say Porter definitely has the best look for Steve Rogers, but I'm intrigued to see Krasinski in the role. I'm sure he's got more in his acting toolbox than playing a prank-pulling paper salesman, and he already did a role as a rough guy in the 30s period with LEATHERHEADS. Then again, maybe there's still the chance that a dashing unknown could swoop in and get the part.
What do you think of these choices, oh typecasting Comic Vine community? Who's your pick? Who would you like to see in the list instead?
